I just ordered a new rear tire for my 09 125. The problem is that tire isn't available for the front (one size smaller) so what kinda problems will I run into putting the same size tire on the front. I know the manufacturer doesn't recommend this but what can be the harm. There is a lot of clearence in the wheel well and lots of room under rear tire when it's up on the center stand, so what are the down sides? Would this make my speedo show faster or slower? Do scooter tires need to be balanced?

I don't know how it will affect handling but I don't think it would be too much, there are others here who have done that on their ZX50s and I will when I can afford to. If the tyre hap a slightly larger O.D. then your speedo will show a slower speed, Kymco speedos read faster than actual anyway.

When I ordered tires from a catalog years ago, they listed the rim widths (from-to) that were acceptable for that tire. If the tire has clearance and the rim width and diameter are OK, I'd say you're good.

No trouble at all! You may even like the handling better. The speedo will read lower, and your bottom end will be a little slower, but you will gain 1-2 mph top end. You can improve the take off using 1-2 gram lighter rollers in the cvt.

Buy another OEM sized brand to replace front tire. Less harm than changing factory tire setting - they put that size in front for a reason.

G'day Axy, with my ZX50, the owner's manual says the front tyre is 120/70/12 yet the tyre on the scoot is 110/70/12, so I guess there is some room for flexibility, within reason, of course.

That is certainly strange.

Yeah, the manual says 120/70/12 and the tyre placard says 110/70/12. I think it may be different size from an earlier model and didn't change it in the manual. In the service manual they show the carb needle as being adjustable but in fact it is not, just something they changed at some point and didn't update the manual.

The Yamaha NEO's 50 comes stock with 130 tires both front and rear.
It's a small difference, it probably won't do any harm, but I'd stick with
stock tire sizes and make sure I find tires made in both sizes before ordering
anything.

Ya the peoples 50 manual says 70/90/16 front 90/80/16 rear comes with 80/80/16 and a 100/80/16.I was able to put a 100/80/16 on the front and a 120/80/16 on the rear.the front is perfect the rear has a minor rub when shock is compressed fully will clean the dirt off.It Did change the speedo closer to actual speed,but threw the gear ratio off had to go with heavier weights.I have tires I can trust in the corners now big improvemet over the chin she.
