That's always a tough one but a good question.
I'll ask those that may know where to find those figures. I have to assume those that sell in volume have at least a clue.........

Maybe.

Stig, there is an article with sales graphs for 2015 on motorscooter guide.net. It is a Canadian site with good stuff on a lot of scooter related topics.

Never knew that was a Canadian site.....just figured it was not U.S............Americans don't do scooters.  There are probably more people riding goats to work, than scooters in this country. 'Least this is true around here....

We have four goats and two scooters. Every morning I just stand there and try to think which form of transportation would be best for today's trip....hmmmm....goat.....or scooter......hmmm, that's a pygmy goat, so my legs might drag the ground a bit....but I know the goat will start up on the first try....  :o :o :o     ;)

(Thank goodness it's the weekend! No goat/scooter decision today!)

Speculation . . . most scooter models sold

139QMB 50cc 4-stroke scooters . . specifically the TaoTao ATM50A1 (https://www.amazon.com/product-reviews/B00J4TX59Q/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_viewopt_sr?ie=UTF8&filterByStar=all_stars&showViewpoints=0&sortBy=recent&pageNumber=1) . . around $650 shipped (http://www.atvscooterstore.com/scooters/item/atm50a1) . . some Las Vegas vendors (http://www.pacificwholesale.com/index.html) are selling this model for around $500+tax in-the-crate (local pickup).

Followed by the GY6 125/150cc variations . . followed by everything else.

I think the sales on scoots go up and down depending on the price of gas.when gas was over 350 a few years back somany people got scoots or motorcycles.no that gas in back down so is the sales on scoots.

According to the following article, per capita sales are higher in Canada. But absolute numbers are higher in the USA http://motorscooterguide.net/files/category-2015-models.html

The article also said that for 2014 MEDIUM SIZED scooter sales were doing well
I can find no information from 2015 or year to date 2016. So I don't know if the trend is still holding.

You have to remember scooter/motorcycle sales stats may take a year or two to figure out as most new scooter/motorcycle shops still have brand new 2013/14/15 in their shops. Also Im not sure if those figures take in to account the new cheap scooters sold online(something we can't do up here in Canada, Ontario at least) they might just be for those scooters sold at an actual bricks and mortar store.

Years ago a Yamaha Regional rep showed me a sheet breaking down sales figures for every brand and type of MC/scooter.  However it only included brands that were in the Motorcycle Industry Council so no cheap Chinese bikes were included.  I don't know it that has changed over the years.
