Title: Temperature getting too hot....

When I idle the bike for a couple of minutes, the temperature gauge keeps rising until I start moving again. It will go right into the red zone if I let it. As long as I'm moving, the gauge stays in the proper zone. Does it sound like the cooling fan is not kicking in, faulty thermostat or a faulty coolant sensor?

I guess the thermal switch would be the first thing to check. There was another thread on this forum where I learned from one of you there is a sensor for the gage and one in the radiator for the fan.

My fan almost never comes on.

I would open the radiator when it's cold and check that it's full.

How could the radiator not be full if the overfill tank level is right on the money?

There could be several reasons for that. One that comes to mind is that the overflow pipe has a leak so when coolant is supposed to return to the radiator it cant because of the leak, thus remaining full.
I have come to realize that making an assumption should not be considered final until it is confirmed by checking.

If water levels correct, then check fan, fan switch, thermostat. Also what is the condition of the coolant, could be blocked passages from crud buildup.
