My wife and I had the chance to do a little scooter riding in Alaska last week.

I did a more detailed report with more pictures here: http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/skagway-scooter-tour.1169457/ (http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/skagway-scooter-tour.1169457/)

Great pictures and write-up! I would seriously have been puckering riding across that wet wooden deck bridge.

I was a little concerned with the bridge since I crashed once on a wet wooden bridge but I went across it a few times to take pictures and didn't have any problems. The tires they had on those scooters seemed to grip real well in the wet conditions we had.

Those low powered, fat tired, Ruckus are perfect for that type of riding.
Curious as to how many Ruckus scoots the rental place had on hand. It is my understanding Honda stopped producing the Ruckus some time back. Also, did you have to have a guide, or did you choose to have one to keep from getting lost?.
If you don`t mind me asking, what was the cost for the scooters and guide?. 1/2 day, or full day rental?.

Good questions Boo, I was thinking the same. Great photos, really enjoyed them. :)

There are a lot more details about the ride here: http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/skagway-scooter-tour.1169457/ (http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/skagway-scooter-tour.1169457/)
We choose the guided tour. Total cost for both us including tax was $283.50. Rentals are available for $35 per hour plus tax. The tour was about 3 hours so renting the scooter without a guide for three hours would have been nearly as much. I was glad we did the tour.
It looked like they had about a dozen Ruckus's. Honda still sells the Ruckus. They discontinued the Big Ruckus some time back.
They also rented motorcycles and offer longer tours.
I also did another, even more detailed report on the Bamarides forum here: http://bamarides.com/ride/index.php?topic=1268.0 (http://bamarides.com/ride/index.php?topic=1268.0)

Those links were great, glad you had a fantastic time. Now I have another place on my wish list to travel to.

Blimey, don't they have great big bears in Alaska? I think a vehicle of the armoured variety would be my personal choice for traveling through bear country. A small scooter would be pretty near the bottom of the list. Just above roller blades.
Great pics by way. A bit like Scotland but bigger. And with bears.
