Here I go again surfing CL for a new scoot. Always wanted to try out a Genuine Buddy as there's one locally for sale, a 2008 Italia 150 with 14k for 1250. Now the hard part; selling this idea to Deb. The SW remains though as that's a keeper.

I have two Buddies. A Buddy 125 and a 170i. They are absolutely fantastic scoots. My wife and I took our Buddies to Michigan this past week and logged about 450 miles on them riding around the Upper Peninsula.
You can't go wrong with a well maintained Buddy.

How do you like the smaller wheel size of the Buddy compared to a big wheel Kymco? I really liked the larger wheels on my People S200. With the 220 pound weight of the Buddy coupled with small scooter wheels how do it handle on the road?

The Buddy handles like a dream. My Buddy 125 tops out at about 55 mph on straightaways and my wife's 170i tops out at about 60 mph. I also have a People 250 with large wheels and I really don't notice much of a difference in handling between the two.
I bought both of my Buddies off CL with less than 100 miles on them. I saved about a 1/3 - 2/3 off the price of new ones. If you can find a clean, low mileage one, go for it. You can't go wrong.

Thanks for the info. Reading up on the Buddy it appears to be a fine scooter and super reliable. In fact it's the one scooter that most scooter rental companies rent because they're so bomb proof. The one I saw on CL locally FS is not a low mileage bike though and has 14k. The price though is low at 1250.00 which is probably why. Says it has 2 new tires and battery and windshield. Looks like a stock Buddy top box too. These scoots are so darn cute and irresistible. The 14k concerns me some because these are probably a 30-40k scooter which puts it at about half life now. Perhaps though for a little over a grand one can't go wrong?

I agree, 14,000 miles is a bit high, but it all comes down to how it was maintained. If the bike is super clean, for $1,250, I don't think you can go wrong.

It looks super clean. Think I'll call the seller and get more info. I assume the belt and rollers are easy to change like most rubber band scooters? Actually, I'd rather buy one that's been ridden than one that's sat up for years in the garage.

Belt and roller replacement is very easy. Oil filter service is also a breeze on the 170i.

One of the perks of owning two Buddies is that they both fit comfortably in the bed of my 2015 Chevy Colorado. Last year, we could not get both of our Like 200's in the bed of the truck. We had to put one of them on our Versahauler.

That's great that you can get both Buddy's in your PU. I called the seller on the Buddy and he's the 2nd owner and has had for a year. Bought it from original owner who was a school teacher and rode it 3 miles to school every day. Apparently the teacher passed away and thus the sale.
Present seller is selling because he rides with some friends who ride motorcycles and he can't keep up with them. Says that it's been well cared for and looks perfect, no scratches, drops or damage. Belt and rollers changed, all fluids, tires, battery and air filter. Looks to be a great scooter at a reasonable price. Now how do I pitch this purchase to my wife?

Well, I did it. I told Deb about the Buddy and showed her a pic from CL. She said that looks like it would fit Jaxon (my 11 year old grandson). She said why do you want one you can't ride on the highway and have to ride the shoulder? Have to admit, this was a concern I had about my Kymco People S 200. We live about 30 miles from town out in the country and the state highway to town is 70mph.

True confessions: Deb said she got upset when I told her I was interested in buying another scooter. Looks like there won't be another in my stable for awhile. I'm happy though with the SW and given the demographics of our living in the country and having to ride a state highway to town, the larger Maxi scooter makes sense. So, I abandon this desire for now and am grateful that I have a scooter.

Thanks Tom, time to slow it down (buying a new bike every year) and enjoy my SW. I really do have a very nice scooter and doubt I can find one I like better. My consumerism is very materialistic as I seek a respite from my scooter lust.
