Today I filled up my Downtown 300i with 2 gallons of gas, upon restarting the fuel gauge comes up and then disappears. Gauge shows when starting and then goes away. Does anyone know what causes this and a remedy other than going back to the dealer. One month off warranty. : (

It has never happened to me before, but if anything like that happened to mine the first thing I would do is disconnect the battery for a few minutes then reconnect. Don't know if it would work tho'. It supposedly resets the ecu.
I would however wait and see if anyone else has had the same problem and see what their remedy was.

My guess is if it only disappears while the engine is running then the fuel recirculation system has an issue. This then may have to do with an emissions control system. Again this is only a guess.

Bad contact in the connector at the fuel sensor at the tank. Dielectric grease in the connector should fix and prevent re-ocurrance.

Today the fuel gauge is back go figure, possibly humidity or heat ???
I will have to check further.
Karl, can you explain how to get to the fuel tanl send unit to put dieelectric grease on the terminal?

Take out the seat and tub and it's layin' right on top of the tank. Of course you have to be a contortionist to get both hands on it but it is doable. You might want to plug and unplug a few times just to be sure but the dielectric grease is a must.
