The front brake switch on my Honda Helix can be heard "clicking" when the brake lever is pressed, but the brake light does not illuminate. Rear brake light works. I have never had this problem after many years of motoing...any ideas?
I know this is a Kymco site, and I have a Kymco "in the family"...my wife's (unless I'm granted permission to ride it. Luckily she is well balanced and will share).

..the rear lamp is a dual element..it's possible that the "brake" element has blown...

Try to locate the switch and spray some electrical contact cleaner or WD-40 into it. Maybe just dirty contacts inside it. Otherwise it may be a loose or corroded connector leading to/from the switch. Can't be a bad bulb or filiment if it works when back brake is applied.

but the brake light does not illuminate
Rear brake light works
..think he meant the running light works, but will not brighten when the brake is applied...
..that would mean that both switches were failing, which is unlikely..
..just speculating..

You have to open the fairing to see if there is power to the switch/out of the switch.A cheap multi meter is something you should have as it will pay for itself in one repair. The switch is an easy replacement if needed, but you have to verify power first.

..but the more i read the post, maybe he means the right hand lever doesn't work, but the left hand does....

Yes, the rear brake light illuminates when brake is applied. The front brake lever does not activate the brake light.

I will try this. Thanks.

As a follow-up...When I shorted the 2 wires going to the switch the brake light illuminated. So I removed the switch f/the handlebar and sprayed contact cleaner in it. A little light lube was sprayed in there and now the switch works...scootering.
