..he gave me a very decent price reduction, and some good advice on other things we talked about...

..i gotta make one of those scoot-ins those guys have...

...parts are in...scoot is on th' porch warming up...fixin to take her out for a run with new bits, except for my slightly worn 4.7 gram rollers..

..i think they're gonna prove to be too light, due to th fact that everything i installed was lighter in weight than what i took out...

...here we go...brb...
Title: Re: ..NCY performance cvt upgrade..
Post by: wordslinger on June 05, 2010, 12:15:22 AM
...4.7's wouldn't hardly get me outta th' driveway...

...wow......
Title: Re: ..NCY performance cvt upgrade..
Post by: wordslinger on June 05, 2010, 12:51:39 AM
..i put in the 9 gr rollers, that come with the kit...

.dang, they were ALMOST good.....too heavy however, and it's kinda hard to explain, but they felt more torquey...

..think imma be looking at 7 gr. rollers with this setup...

..the GOOD thing is, i have a Stage 6 roller tuning kit at my disposal...

..the BAD thing is, it's now raining, and tuning has ceased...

........g-dammit....

 :-\

..this was an easy upgrade, i took my time, and did it all in less than 1 hour...

...major issue.....
...so, it seems that a cpl ppl at the NCY Motor Sports facility, a machinist and a quality inspector, to name two, were either having a very bad day, or were high on hippie grass, or something.....

..i didn't install the moveable driven face (mdf) last night, because i couldn't get the seal collar off the OEM...so, i figured after work today, (3:30) i would throw in three 9 gr rollers and three 5.5 gr rollers, soak it in some solvent, which i did, make the change and be on my way to tuning the variator...

...the inside of the ncy mdf had never been machined to a smooth surface...it still had the rough tool marks in it...measured out to exactly .0015" greater than the O.D of the driven face's shaft...basicly a press fit...
..so, i get out my trusty die grinder and a 400 grit flap wheel, remove the seals (didn't like doing that at all) and begin to open it up...now, not knowing what the clearance between the two bits should be, i make an uneducated guess and assemble everything kinda snug thinking that there are some pretty great forces at work in this area, and take off down th' road...MISTAKE...after about a half mile, the damned thing stuck, and i didn't think i was going to be able to get it going at all at low speed........but, i eventually made it back to the shop...(6:30) tear it all down again, and decided to chuck it up in a lathe, to get a more even surface, and expidite the whole process a bit...well of course, i had to reverse the jaws on the lathe's chuck (ain't nothin' easy) and finally achieved a smooth even surface and didn't even bother to measure the dimensions, as by then i'm getting pretty tired and hungry...greased and assembled the clutch, again, and close everything up for the next trial run...well, this worked but 43.5 gram total weight is still a bit too much..can't get the rpms up enough for a quick take-off and the machine won't maintain top speed...

..made it home at 8:30...

..tomorrow is another day......and i'm going to start at 6 grams...

I would take it back to the guy who sold it to you before you do anything more to it.  Maybe there was a reason he had it lying around for awhile.

..no, it's not his fault at all...without inspecting thoroughly each bit in th' kit, nobody would ever have known...

..the fault lies in NCY's lap with this one...

Well regardless, hope you get it going!

..oh, it's going!!!  :o

..other than the issue with the mdf, i love it!!... ;D

..just wanted to get the rollers tuned in today, and that didn't happen....  :-\

..oh, i'm alright with th' kit...i fixed the problem...i'd also hope it's a nomly for other ppls sake...

.. somebody else that didn't have the recoures at their disposal that i do...........

..well that guy would have been screwed and dejected and really fu*king pissed off...

..me,   ..imma tune this bitch tomorrow!!!!

Post by: wordslinger on June 07, 2010, 02:26:08 AM
...6 grams is th' ticket!!...up from 4.7

..i've never had my scoot's cvt dialed in as well as it is right now...

..acceleration starts out smooth, but quick, and the rpms stay up with no drop-off at all, as it reaches top speed....

..one note on the whole upgrade..

.. the 748 belt is too long...

peace

How much better is it than your previous set up with the polini(?) var and stock(?) clutch?
Title: Re: ..NCY performance cvt upgrade..

Excellent, glad to hear of the good result :)
Title: Re: ..NCY performance cvt upgrade..
Post by: wordslinger on June 07, 2010, 02:34:33 AM
..well, my old parts were extremely worn..

..Malossi multivar variator, oem clutch with malossi 1000 contra and +15%  leo vince fly springs...

..i've never had this consistent acceleration without dropping rpms all the way up to top speed, which today, topped out at 85 kmh with a moderate headwind..

..thanx sid, if this kit holds up, it was a good investment...

That's good. My torque spring turned up today, was tempted to put it in but got to go to work early, tomorrow is a day of so will spend it on the scoot.

That's great slinger, now i dont know what to do next... transmission kit, or cylinder kit.  Still waiting on my clutch springs, exhaust, free flow filter, and some main jets.
Title: Re: ..NCY performance cvt upgrade..
Post by: wordslinger on June 07, 2010, 02:41:19 AM
..you getting the 1500 spring?
Title: Re: ..NCY performance cvt upgrade..
Post by: wordslinger on June 07, 2010, 02:43:51 AM
...get your cvt dialed in first..i would bet that 5 gram rollers, 1000 torque and the next above stock fly springs will make you really happy...
Title: Re: ..NCY performance cvt upgrade..
Post by: shubonker on June 07, 2010, 02:54:53 AM
Yea i'm going to dial in the transmission before i put it the other stuff.  I got the 1500 torque spring, should be nice.  Plus i got 1000, 1500, 2000 fly springs to play around with.  Hopefully 5g rollers will play nicely with these springs i bought, i don't want to wait for more rollers, i hate waiting!
Title: Re: ..NCY performance cvt upgrade..
Post by: wordslinger on June 07, 2010, 03:04:27 AM
..i'm anticipating the effects of the 1500 torque spring....you'll probably want the 1000 fly springs...

..i'fe found that increases in the 15-25% range livens up the "stock" A50...

..much over that percentage, and you either rev too high or loo low for optimum performance...

..change out one bit at a time..see what that does for your scoot, then swap out something else...
Title: Re: ..NCY performance cvt upgrade..
Post by: wordslinger on July 26, 2010, 10:30:54 PM
...well, as it's turns out..i have not been entirely satisfied with the NCY parts...

..initially, the parts performed well, but over a very short time, performance has faltered with the ncy bits...

..currently, the only ncy bit i'm running is the variator, and that's because i have nothing better to use...

..gonna go back to Malossi, as soon as the funds are there...

peace
