G'day All, back in march I installed a dimmer switch in my ZX50 and at the same time I fitted a halogen globe, No. BA20D is a straight swap from the original globe. Because I was busy with other mods at the time I didn't really pay much attention to the light. Well about a month or so ago the low beam died when i was going to work, being a new globe I thought it was probably a wire connector came apart so I didn't bother too much about it. Yesterday I opened it up to find it was not a bad connector but that the globe had blown. Now, I don't know wether the globe had been knocked before I bought it and it was a matter of time or if the vibrations of the 2~stroke engine is too much for it along with all the bumps in the road. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Is it better to stay with the original globe.
When i put the original globe back in I think it gives better light. Since I already have a new halogen globe on order I will try that and see how it compares.

..one thing comes to mind..
..you cannot touch halogen lamps with your bare skin...
:-\
..the reflector is designed for the incandescent lamps..it's the reflector that really projects the lighting in a desirable pattern...
..i know this because i have a halogen lamp in my scoot, and it was a bitch-kitty to get the pattern where the lamp and reflector would project a decent looking beam...
-
yeah, I do realise that, what about vibes? Any thoughts?
-
..i modified that last message..sorry...
-
Thanks for clearing that up, I was getting worried. Like you said the reflector is designed for incandessant globes, maybe that is why it seems a bit better with the original one.

..i had to replace my OEM socket, which for some reason, dry-rotted and crumbled apart...
..i don't think vibration is much of a problem, as i've had this lamp for @ 9 months...
..i'm "ok" with the beam, but the OEM beam was better...

Oh well, being an overseas purchase it was probably knocked around a bit, my current order is also an overseas one so it will probably be the same. Wait and see.

..one thing...which may make a difference..i have my lamp socket kinda suspended within the opening, and have it cushioned with some small strips of 3/8" thick rubber...
..this also allows some air flow around the lamp, which get's very hot...
-
That would absorb some vibe but then being a 4~stroke it wouldn't vibrate as much as a 2~stroke.

...true...i reckon...
..really??

I've got a halogen driving light bulb in mine. I slightly modified the base to fit. So far it is the best one I've tried. Still a little tricky getting the pattern to point where you want it.

..i could probably get my beam better if i hadn't gotten just frikin' tired of messin with it...lol..
