I TOOK OUT MY GPS TO CHECKED THE TOP SPEED WITH JUST A (BOSS DRIVE CHANGE) AND THE TOP SPEED WAS 46-47 MPH AT THROTTLE LOCKED AND A 2 MILE RUN. THE SPEEPOMETER SAID 51 MPH, NOT BAD FOR JUST A $20 BUCK MODIFICATION-----TOP SPEED 46-47 MPH BY GPS
-
...awesome!!
..and the really awesome thing is, your scoot has the potential for 30+% more!!!...
;D

Congratulations! My stock Super 9 a/c goes exactly 37 MPH, indicated 44MPH. Verified with my TomTom, WOT, level ground, moderate headwind which I couldn't measure, and about a 1 mile stretch of flat road.
But, I am working on it........heh heh!! 8)
BTW- I have seen a couple of of S9s for sale with a supposed top speed of 55 or so- are these guys reading the kilometer scale by mistake???? They don't brag about a lot of modifications, so is a speed of 55 MPH on a stock S9 really that far off? Like I said, I'm getting 37MPH....VERIFIED.
AND, while we're on this subject, why didn't Kymco just use an American MPH scale (yes I said American because really how many other countries use Miles per hour anyways?)- would really make life easier for us neglected non - metric people. My German cars all sport MPH as the dominant scale on the gauges...
-

..hell no, it's not that far off..
..especially for a liquid cooled...
..S9s were dsigned for racing, i do believe...
..dang, i've ran 52 verified on my A50...

ONLY 37 MPH-----WHAT MOD'S DID YOU DO

ONLY 37 MPH-----WHAT MOD'S DID YOU DO
Well, so far I have replaced the CDI module with a GY6- based "no rev limit" module, but I see no difference whatsoever. I am currently researching my variator options, as zombie has patiently explained to me in another thread, so I will be doing the variator, clutch springs and torque spring. I think it will help a lot, and then my next step is carb jetting. I think this air cooled S9 has a pretty small carb on it. But, yes, 37 MPH is my top speed. Kind of depressing, actually. Maybe the least desirable mod is ME- too many pizzas??? ::)
Of course, the Airsal 73cc kit and tecnigas pipe will be forthcoming.....
Hey, I am open to suggestions. I am reading every forum I can find, and have learned a lot here and elsewhere, so keep it coming!!
I still think some people read their speedo and assume the big numbers are MILES per hour.....Of course, all of us here know better, but I'm just sayin.... some stuff on Craigslist is kind of iffy!
-
...wish my A50 WOULD run 90 mph...
.. :o ..
-
The main difference that you will notice with the CDI is going down a long hill. Normally the bike would hit the rev limit. I've had mixed reviews on the GY6 CDI. Some have had awesome results, others say they can't tell a difference. One guy thought it got worse. I have used them myself several times, and haven't had a bad experience yet. The AC bikes did seem to perform a little better with the stock LC CDI, but it's not a plug and play modification to make that older CDI work. You have to re-wire the connectors where the harness plugs into the CDI.

BUZZBOMB YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR BOSS DRIVE THEN YOU WILL BE HAPPY :D :o

Yes, I have the fix in the pipeline as we speak. Of course, the restricted drive was removed by the dealer already. New variator, Malossi Delta clutch, and Malossi torque spring are in the mail! Now, to fine tune the rollers; I have no experience in this operation, but with the help I have around here and a couple other forums I will get it done!
In another thread Zombie was kind enough to give me help choosing some parts- I am confident that this thing will fly when we get done with it.
Like I said before- this site ROCKS!! ;D
-
SOUNDS GRRRRREAT------YOU WILL LOVE THOSE MOD'S 45-50 MPS AT LEAST :)
-
Thanks for the props Buzz. The cdi may still hold you back, and there are a few options there, but your scoot can EASILY maintain 60mph with the stock jug. I've seen alot of your posts, and have to say this forum has a lot better input than the kids that are going in circles every time you ask a ?. I saw one that went on almost 15 replies, and no one answered you ?. I'm not trying to blow any ill wind, just laughing at those that do. Just hold on tight for your first ride Bro!

Zombie, I am eagerly awaiting the shakedown run with my new clutch components- thanks to you and this forum, of course!
60 mph with this setup? Are you for real??? I am getting no sleep as it is, this will not help, my friend!!!
BTW- I can already tell the new CDI does let it rev higher on downhills, I installed a tach from ebay, and my normal WOT is around 7200 on the flat, and it will rev on downhills, till the hill runs out. I think it should help.
Stay tuned...... 8)

60 MPH WITHOUT CHANGING THE CARBS ??? ZOBBIE-WHAT THE ???-------I GOT TO SEE THAT----LET US KNOW AND TRY TO USE A GPS WHEN YOU CLOCK YOUR SPEED---THAT WILL BE GREAT :D
-
Buzz will have to get into a few other mods, but I mean the stock 50cc jug will maintain 60mph. The 9 is one hell of a scoot.

Yes, I am planning on "other mods"- I realize the carb is a bottleneck to performance. I plan on trying to enlarge the jet a bit, at first. But that Arreche looks so sweet......Just need to work more overtime this week.....
All in good time, gentlemen!! ;)
-
YOU MEAN WITH JUST A CLUTCH/VARIATOR/CDI CHANGE
-
YOU MEAN WITH JUST A CLUTCH/VARIATOR/CDI CHANGE
That, and carb/filter/pipe
-
OKAY, I SEE NOW--I THOUGHT IT HAD TO BE MORE
-
I can only get 29 miles an hour on my super nine.
-
Where is the scoot from? Which year, and model? Ps. Welcome to the forum... 29mph will be a bad memory soon!
-
It says super 9 on the sides, it looks just like the blue one that you guys have.2003
-
DO IT SAY L/C ON THE LEFT & RIGHT SIDE AROUND WHERE YOU REST YOUR FOOT
-
it says lc on the side.
-
You gots the good one... you gots the good one!
-
There is a good one and a bad one?
-
THAT MEANS YOU HAVE THE LIQUID COOLED MODEL ( IT TAKES ANTIFREEZE ) AND FOR SOME REASON PEOPLE SEEM TO LIKE THE LC MODEL MORE.
-
More power than the air cooled engine!
-
The guy at the shop said that an liquid cooled engine run cooler so you can get a little more horse power. I don't know how true that is.
-
..it is VERY true!!!
;D
-
WELL I KNOW ONE THING---YOU WILL LEARN A LOT ON THIS SITE
-
..let's TESTIFY!!..

LONG LIVE GPS
-
Live long super 9
-
THEY ARE GREAT SCOOTERS AND I RIDE MINE ALL YEAR
-
I had a good ride today with my new mod.
-
YEP--A BIG DIFFERENT
-
How did you get your scooter to do that? Is that a backfire?
-
That's his Grandmas scoot. Obarks is the blue one...
-
NAW--JUST A PICTURE--IF YOU SEE YOUR SCOOT DO THAT !! RUN !!
-
It may chase you if it is breathing fire.
-
:D
-
That looks like a red agility.
-
Naw! 10" wheels...
-
HUMMMMM
-
You're killing me w/ the picts. They do say a thousand words!
-
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
-
Awwwwww!
-
Hey i'm enjoying my scooter, lots of fun.
-
AS THEY SAY-----WAIT TO YOU DO SOME MORE MODS
-
Maybe next week i will order some clutch stuff.
-
Measure the ID size of your clutch bell. Buzzbomb has ordered the wrong size for his, and if you have a 105mm bell, he has a Malossi clutch!
-
IF SUPER DONT BUY IT I MIGHT----DO YOU MESURE UP/DOWN OR ROUND AND WHAT IS THE PRESSURE SPRING RATED
-
You measure across the inside of the bell, and you can use whatever springs you want. (except the Malossi yellow)
-
OK-----IS THAT EVERYTHING I NEED FOR A CLUTCH SET UP--FASTER TAKE OFF
-
Thats what i want to do, increase my pick-up.
-

I replied in the other thread, about this clutch, so, ......stay tuned......I will need to find the right parts....
-
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT
-
That's my next step also or i might just change the springs.
-
YOU MIGHT BE BETTER OFF JUST CHANGING THE WHOLE CVT(UP-GRADE)
-
I'm thinking that also.
-
BUT I DO SEE THAT SOME JUST CHANGE THE SPINGS AND LEFT THE CLUTCH STOCK
-
..that's what i said!!!..lol..
-
And save money too.
-
MH DON'T SEEM TO KNOW ABOUT SCOOTERS
-
Who or what is mh?
-
Who or what is mh?
...yeah..what it is??
-
MHR
-
I did type it up and found moped hospital racing. Maybe that.
-
Some people like dealing w/ MHR, but they leave me feeling sort of flat. Not to friendly, and an "It is what it is" kinda attitude. To me NOTHING is set in stone.
-
HUMMMMM
-
How are they prices and service?
-
I have recently ordered a few items from them- no problems. I got the items quickly and had no other issues.
I have read "elsewhere" that Moped Hospital was a good source for Kymco items, and they had what I was looking for, so I ordered.
I did spend a lot there, so I would let others know if I had any problems. I do wish they would give me some stickers or other free swag, though, but thats just me............. :(
-
OK GREAT TO HEAR-----I THINK ONLY TWO GUYS WORK THERE---ONE DON'T KNOW ABOUT SCOOTER MOD
-
I wonder if buzzbomb modified his super 9 8)
-
BOY, what a blast from the past!!! I HAVE done a lot on my S9 since this thread- man its been 5 years!!!
I have the Airsal 70cc kit on it, with 19mm carb. The biggest boost in power was welding the intake and hogging it out to match the carb. That was a great improvement.
I now hit 49MPH consistently. I have the stock clutch with different springs, and a Jasil variator and Malossi spring. It has been a long time- I cannot even remember all the details! But I still have a brand new Malossi clutch, 105mm and a 105 bell which do not fit this scooter. I would make someone a heckuva deal if you are interested...
I have zero time to work on or even ride this thing anymore as I work 6 days a week and there is no time for play anymore.
But it really does work well, if not super high on top end. It will beat traffic from a red light every time!
-
Glad to see you are still out here with your scoot. I guess we are the long running owners of the super 9's
-
Most recent, cold morning, long flat after a slight downhill pitch. Speedo needle is past the mph/kmh markings.
-
Nice but you must have done some mod's
-
Yep. I almost feel like it should be more, but I'm satisfied. Now I need to focus on efficiency.
-
53mph, that's pretty cool! I'll have to check mine with gps sometime, have iphone that is supposed to be able to do it, just don't know how, but have son-n-law that can show me. Cheers

How did you get 53mph...was that on the scoot gauge
-
look at pic reply #77, I saw top speed 53, I don't know, but thought pic of GPS?

It has to be more then 49 mph after those mod's
-
That's a GPS app for my phone. It records the top speed of the run, along with real time GPS. It's called Ulysses I believe. I just turn it on and throw it in my pocket. I removed my phone holder when I put in the windscreen.
-
you can change to boss alone and get that speed
-
If you toss in 12g rollers and take a huge hill you could see mad top speeds. You can throw in some super light rollers and pull the wheel off the ground every time but Max out at 45 with the tachometer pegged. Then rider weight comes into play as well.
I had ran 43+ often on the stock pipe and cylinder but would drop to 30 on hills, all GPS. After my tuning, the hill has to be ridiculously steep to get me below 40. And running smooth with unfavorable winds at 50 is great to me!
There's a guy with a shop in town that tried to convince me to put in five grams rollers, that's what he had in his s9. But I prefer to have all around performance.
-
That's a good choice......Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrooooommmmmm
-
I need to upgrade, had a long sleep
-
Never too late, mine is still stock except the boss
-
i am going to look into the upgrades
-
Well check out some of these guys on here, they have done some nice up-grades
