I have mine chained to a railroad tie with 1/2" chain and eyebolt to the tie. It would take some effort.
How did they get yours? Did they carry it away or ride it away?
I also put a shutoff valve on it. With a hidden one, they would run out of fuel when riding it away.
Hope you get it back.

Oh, crap!! That totally sucks! It just makes my blood boil when people think they have a right to just take whatever they want. I sure hope they find the little s#!ts who took it and get your scooter back in good condition. Ask the deputy for just 2 minutes alone with them when they catch them....issue a little payback!

Karl, sorry to hear about the DT. It enrages me, when people take things that don't belong to them. My house was burglarized a few years ago, it is the worst feeling in the world. Hope you get her back in good shape

Heard a story of someone that put one on his motorcycle and they found it within the hour because of it.
At $25, that sounds too good to be true. Please do a review when you get it set up. The tile I believe is Blue tooth though and not GPS so you alert a network of other tile users who you depend on to locate your bike.
I'm almost partial to the legality of shooting someone thats trying to steal someone's personal property of $1000 or more. Maybe put forward a tough luck legislation. If you get shot while in the process of grand theft, then tough luck because no one forced you to do it.
I can see forgiveness in stealing food (an apple pie cooling on the window ledge or apples from an orchard) if you are just trying to survive, but someone's expensive property seems totally different.
Lets all wish crossbolt the best in getting his scooter back.

I have 2 cable locks on my DT. When I'm out and have to park it, I try to leave it near one of these guys!!!!

This is why I never use cables for security but after reading there are some high cost quality braided cable locks that will make cutting difficult.

The tools (sharp pliers) that can cut the best cables are much smaller than the tool needed to cut 1/2" chain and are not necessarily considered burglary tools (cant cut locks).
You will need large bolt cutters > 2 feet (considered a burglary tool) to cut a 1/2" chain and you don't want to be caught walking around with those opposed to sharp pliers for cable cutting if you have no reason to be owning them. Pliers can fit in the pocket of a pair of khaki pants.
I do have a thick Stainless Steel Master lock on it. For something quit while running an errand, why not a lock around one or two of the wheel spokes (make sure you remember to remove it; maybe paint it red to make if very visible)??
1/2" chain is not fool proof but thieves tend to look for the easiest targets. But if they really want something like my coworkers Miata, they will break the steering wheel off and use vice grips to steer the car.
This is an interesting read and thus the reason for the railroad tie for my bike. It will take a struggle to get it into a van and will need maybe 3 people. I should look to anchor the tie to the ground better but do they want to go thru the hassle for a 3 yr old 50cc scooter that's parked next to a busy PO. Sometime I am wary of the white postal delivery trucks that come thru though as they do stare a bit while I'm working on the scooter..

Believe me, its that easy but once again, you don't want to be caught with these tools.
I would suggest removing the kick starter and putting it in a safe place or in your storage; but this method obsoletes that.

Oddly, I have never locked up any of my scooters and don't own a chain or cable and lock. I have one of those locks that goes on the front rotor and used a few times but sitsin my dresser drawer now. Perhaps it's the weight of the larger Maxi-scooters like my Burgman's and SW that are in the 550-650 pound range that makes them a bit heavy to lift and put in a truck. I also have a Burgman friend that sells GPS devices for security for those who hope to recover a stolen bike.

Sorry to hear about your scoot. I sometimes worry about mine being stolen when I'm out and about. At home I have no worries. I have a 115 lb german shepard that protects our property. Someone tried to break into my daughter's car a couple of years ago. The dog heard the glass break and went right through a window after the guy. He gladly surrendered to the police when they arrive, as our dog had cornered him in our back yard. Hell, I would have been scared of her.
And that wasn't the first time she protected our property. Hope you get your scoot back and I would gladly lend you our dog to spend a few minutes with the guy if they do capture him.

All you guys are the greatest! Thank you is inadequate but that's all I can muster! UPDATE: Cops in the next county found the bike this morning in a ditch just outside Bolivar, TN. It had remnants of a rope attached to the front and appeared to have been towed for a distance behind another vehicle. They said it was heavily damaged and had a sneaker near it with a "lot of blood on it" probably indicating one of the perpetrators was seriously injured in the crash. Ignition switch broken as well. Allstate agent says it's covered, will be meeting with the adjuster probably Monday. The investigators will be in touch also probably Monday or Tuesday next week. The Fat Lady has not sung on this one yet.
More update: have installed Lowe's fat chain in concrete secured with Master pad locks with a 10 rating for hers and mine ( when the Fat Lady sings). Gonna get a Tarter gate on the driveway to slow 'em down. More later as it unfolds.

Well...after watching what happens to the near side leg during a low side crash. ...I hope the guy isn't hurt too much. Truly....you don't really want someone crippled by one of our scooters. That's not what we're all about.....no matter how bad a decision somebody made.
I hope you can get this cleared up....and move on ...maybe with a totally new scooter.
Right now you are of course entitled to your righteous anger and disappointment with human kind!

Sorry about your scoot, gotta suck. When my scoot was stolen the ins co tried to lowball me big time on the value. I had to complain to their customer service dept supervisor to get another valuation done and they upped the value by $600. Go get 3 estimates of value from dealers across the country, their prices reflect reality. Don't use craigs unless your happy with the $. It's difficult to get local values because at any given time no DT's may be for sale locally. Try and get the mileage as close as you can. That's a big factor in resale value.

Stig's man after my own heart. i too had hoped for a better outcome. But at least they found it and you can begin the process of getting it repaired or replaced. I don't want them to experience a major and permanent injury either. But I do hope they got TEMPORARILY hurt just enough to make them learn their lesson and NEVER want to do that again.

Good words of wisdom Tom. I watched a rider ahead of me in a group ride have a low side crash going maybe 10 miles an hour on a B400. We were turning left at a stop sign onto a rural road as the rider took off to fast and therefore cut his turn too wide and ended up in the bar ditch. He tried to pull it back up on the blacktop out of the dirt but had a thick edge trap of asphalt and dropped it on his leg. He shattered his lower leg in several places and is now permanently disabled and can barely walk. So what you said Tom about not wishing this on anyone despite one's crime is admirable.

OK, got to see what is left today at the tow lot. Still recognizable as a DT but windshield broken off about halfway down, left side ground down, left pax peg gone, right mirror broken off, left brake lever bent and twisted, scuff/abraded both sides. You should see the remains of the ignition lock! Top cover and "shutter" completely missing and the innards broken as evidence they drove a large screwdriver into the keyslot and turned trying to turn it on. They failed and the nylon strap still tied to the front forks evidence they were trying to pull start it or just move it down the road. Darwin Award candidates!
By the way, I was able to use the cable pull to unlatch the seat and recover the rain suit, GPS, tire gage, spare plug and fuses, tire pump and whatnots!

Karl, can we get pix of this? not that anyone likes to see a busted scooter.
Man, can only imagine how you feel , looking at your busted scooter....which has brought you so much pleasure.

I had a car stolen from our house about 30 years ago. They found it the same day 2 counties over with only minor damage. I think it was juveniles on a joy ride. Aside from the feeling of being violated, what added insult was the fact that since we didn't have Comprehensive coverage, I (or rather my father) had to pay the towing and ONE DAY's storage even though we picked it up the SAME DAY. We felt violated TWICE.
Anyway, I hope they make you Whole as much as possible and that you're back on the road again soon.

Glad they found the scoot and hopefully they will catch the ones who did this to it. May either the repair or the next scoot be even better than before.
Worse yet for me was having a netbook computer stolen from my house. I wasn't so concerned with the netbook itself as what was on it I can never get back. I used this thing in my travels storing photos, GPS track logs, and other memories. Police did recover the netbook but the battery would no longer charge (internal computer) and someone install a boot lock on the hard drive not that I'm sure any of my data remained. Just thinking about it makes me pissed off to no end.

Update: Going to meet with "adjuster" this AM. I think he is already leaning towards total loss. Will advise.

Darn, Chris! I forgot about the Picasso! Adjuster totaled it. Got the stuff off it like the TPMS, GPS mount, the luggage plate I made (for a pattern) even the Wolo horn! Yes, I am gonna replace it with another DT300i.

I won't be buying much after we replace it since Allstate is only giving us $2980.82 for the payoff. Kinda sucks, doesn't it? That's the way they work unless one is willing to pay a really big premium for exact replacement cost. I ain't that well heeled!

You're well versed in scooters - and you're aware of buyer's remorse when it comes to scooters - new owners deciding they're not scooter riders after all and selling with 400 miles on them. If you don't need brand new, or new left-overs there should be some coming on the market in a few months. Ride it home from a distant State!

Of the insurance claims I've had two I got more than I paid for them because the average replacement cost was higher than what I paid for them. I have no idea what used ones run in your area. Yes it sucks but I would inquire as the buy back price if want parts off it. They usually sell cheap to junkyards.

The prices at this dealer always amazes me.
How much add-ons?......I wonder....but then every dealer price has pretty much the same additional fees I think.
With my Like I paid list plus fees....no other Kymco dealer around....and could not afford a Vespa....and SYM dealer dead. (Did get $100 dealer gift card...whoopee)

I got the TrackR for my scooter. Haven't put it in yet. Same concept as tile. Put one on each of the dogs too. Just in case. Though I'm sure if someone took my dogs, they'd bring them right back, as soon as they figure out how annoying they are ;)

If funds are an issue I wouldn't hesitate to go after a Kymco super 8 or Movie used for cheap. 2wheels are better than 2 feet or four tires. 150cc of course.

UPDATE: Got the new/old stock 2013 DT300i. Put 5 miles at the dealer as part of my PDI and rode with Dear Wife on her People to lunch with friends. Now showing 51.2 miles. All good! Mods to follow, not speed mods but luggage plate over the joke for a parcel rack and a GPS mount.
LESSONS LEARNED: chain 'em down with a top security key lock. Turn the forks and lock them. Push the button and drop the shutter closed over the key lock(on the scoot). We put a gate across the driveway with chain and lock. The drive is like a road cut with steep banks. Put short fence-like bars from gate posts to concrete plugs in the ground. This will DISCOURAGE casual entry even by four-wheelers and everyone around here has at least one.
We are in the sticks country, folks. Farmland and scattered houses. Not densely populated. It WAS the last outpost of people not locking anything up. Not any more.

Dealer PDI: Safety switch on side stand inop. Left hand mirror locknut crushing wire to turn signal-mirror would not stay in position. Underseat tub (met-in area) light not connected. Fuse box and analyzer tool connector both adrift (Navy talk for not secured or not reachable/in sight). Battery probably not charged prior to installation. Seat tub plastic fastener not replaced after tub re-installed. Numerous nuts and bolts missing or incorrect type (proper fasteners robbed from other bikes to correct). This last item was taken care of by dealer. I did the rest. Parts robbing once started never stops. It just passes down the line until someone FORCES the stop or slows it down. I did this as a tech at a John Deere dealership because the practice is counter-productive and would actually cost me money. I did not stop it, just slowed it down: they did not get the parts from MY machines!

Never thought about the fact that my Burgman had been sitting on dealer floor for 2or 3 yrs.
There were two....one black. .one black/gray.....so maybe they robbed from black one!? (rare to get color choice w burgs)
During my fuel pump recall on forza...I watched them roll away the floor model. I got a little curious....sure enough they broke my Forza's panel.....then they broke the floor model's too!
Brought home new VW bus....found a German beer bottle cap sitting on engine. I laughed snd laughed at some Austrian's sense of humor. Like mine!
Yep....only car in walmart parking lot made in AUSTRIA!@!
Picking up American made VW Jetta....but ordered vinyl seats....this one had cloth seats.
I have lots if messy kids....sale is off! "Wait Mr. STIG..!"
They yanked vinyl seats out of another and tossed the cloth ones in the parking lot!
Sale completed.

Same here, live in the country too and never lock our house or the bikes. Until that changes I'm not changing things yet. Been good for 16 years so far. Sorry you had troubles.

Quite the ordeal. I haven't had much time to look over the MyRoad but when they brought it out to me I looked it over. I found a screw not all the way in on the handle bars. They tried to tighten it but it wouldn't go in all the way so they pulled it out and the threads had been buggered. Ok I said just run a tap in and it will be fine. They took in in back and when it came out had a different screw (chrome) than the one on the other side. I said may I have the old one and they said the guy had thrown it away. At that point I just figured I'd rather take it home and deal with myself. Later when I got home with it I found a broken plastic fastener on the battery cover. All in all pretty minor compared to your experience.
I work at a car dealer and parts robbing happens from time to time but It just takes someone who cares to order and replace the robbed parts. I'd hate to think some places might not do that just because they don't want to pay for those replacement parts.

I know our color choices are limited, especially here in North America. Orange or white. They do offer the 2016 model in black now. I bought dark gray metallic vinyl wrap. One day when I muster up the courage, I may change it to that.Happy motoring on the new DT
