Old news to some I guess - but I read through it with interest.
I think modular helmets have still not been Snell approved....but what is there on a flip helmet... is still stronger than my facial bones.
If you can wear one - full face helmets are best. Many now provide for very good peripheral vision... an argument long used by some who wear open faced helmets. Crack the face shield for cooling, or the 'winds' in your face feeling.
I thought the 'neck injury with helmets' finding was interesting.

Thanks for sharing. Several people tease me because I always wear a modular helmet in the fully closed position and nearly always wear a riding jacket on a SCOOTER. To them a 3/4 is sufficient since it's not a "real motorcycle ". They seem to think I'm being dramatic and pretentious. But I tell them that a fall is a fall no matter what I'm riding. This study confirms that I'm doing the right thing.
My natural tendency is to wear the least I can get by with because I HATE even wearing a hat or cap. But common sense overrides my natural desires. I know a full face is safer than a modular. But I think a modular is a close second. I simply can't imagine having to take my helmet off just to have a conversation or to walk into a convenience store. And I feel just claustrophobic if I'm fully helmeted and not moving .
A 3/4 would make me feel as if my chin was an open target. So modular it is

Yeah....sales girl got upset with me because I could not find a full face helmet to wear over my glasses. "It's just a scooter !" she said.
Senior ssles person found me a xxxxl HJC modular that worked....3 visits later!
PO'd me so much I bought it from Revzilla.
An off is an off.

Thanks, Stig! The included link was extremely informative as well. Old guys on scooters seem to be nearly bullet-proof according to the link except for the short-haul "honey-do" trips! There is more info in that report summary than I can remember and there were some real surprises, too! Thanks!
