Title: New Owner - with small problem - Speedometer reads too fast

I am the new owner of a GV 250. Love the motorcycle but when I was on the road I was getting passed too often. Took a GPS for a ride tonight and discovered that when the speedometer read 70 mph I was going 60. 64/55 35/30. The speedometer was pretty much 20% too fast (I think that is said correctly). Does anyone know how to fix?

I have heard this problem on more than just the GV.  No fix that I know of can be done...

It's fairly common for scooter speedos to read in the 10-15% "optimistic" range, reading that much higher than actual speed. Dunno why, but there it is. No fix that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg (replacing speedo with an aftermarket unit or GPS).

This is a common problem, my Gv250 reads 7-8 MPH high.  They just want you to think you are going faster than you are.

...i've pretty much verified, by a state trooper, that mine is around 3-4 mph off at 50....

..he was very nice...thank God...

if you are reading low, try going down 1-2 tire sizes on the front. is the tire you have the stock size? also different manuf. have different rolling rates over 1 mile on the same size rating. a few mills difference means alot over a mile.

Mine reads 4 to 6 MPH fast. This is sometimes a problem on motorcycles too. I was once told that bike speedometers are calibrated a 45 MPH. As they go higher they get less accurate. No one seems to know why. Maybe an engineer might know.
