Title: Power loss on my Peoples 50
Post by: vancil1975 on May 24, 2010, 01:18:40 PM
I am having an issue when I throtttle to go from a stop.  I loose alot of power and there is hesitation.  It eventutaly regains but that could take at least a 100 yards or so.  I tryed cleaning the air filter.  Still doing it.  Could it be bad gas? It sometimes will only go around 20 mph and then all of a sudden it will pick up and run like normal.  Frustrating.  Any help would be appriciated.  :-\

The important bit is the carb. is needing cleaning. The easiest way to get to know what happened is to fix it. "Chem Dip" is a good carb cleaner. Remove ALL the metal bits from the carb., and soak them in Chem Dip for 24-48 hours. The CAN says 1-2 hours. The carb. will be better than new, because you tuned it.

Yes it sat all winter.  I did put fuel stabilizer in it though.  I also have had it into the shop for an annual tune up less than a month ago.

The shop should have put in a NEW air filter, and spark plug. Have you CHANGED the plug yet? If that does not fix it I would get into the carb. If the jets are getting cloged it will lean out the fuel mix, and do more damage than you would think. Sea foam is a good start to TRY to clear it, and a few tanks of fresh fuel/Sea foam will tell.

I wanted all who helped me with my issue on my Peoples to know that so far the adding Seafoam to a new tank of gas has cleared up the situation.  Thanks so much for the advice.   ;D

Almost 100'000 of them. Slim Pickin's here in the swamp. Actually the first trip was business for my best bud, and he hooked me up w/ his brother who does all the Harley work for http://www.dreammachinesusa.com/ (http://www.dreammachinesusa.com/)   With a place to live/job/WOMEN w/ all their teeth, I am considering working for his shop as a free lancer, and runing a marine paint shop for another partner. I can survive in Carrabelle doing what I do, buttttttt I still want more than .50cent beer, and .75 cent cigars.
