on my 2001 people my head and tail light just stopped working. the brake light and bright light are still working tho. this happened one time before and the next day when i went to fix it was working again. where do i begin to try and find the problem?

..sounds like you might have a broken wire...
..below is a link to the ppl50 2t service manual, if you don't already have one..
..there is a wiring schematic in in that will help you in tracing down the problem...
...good luck!!!..breaks can be hard to find, especially if the symptoms come and go...

the brake light works. its the back light and head light that stays on when the motor is running that is out. i guess im gonna have to trace wires. it'll never run again
-
..you'll do fine dre...
..and when you're done, you'll know all about you lighting system!!
;D

I would start at the stator. Check/clean every connection, right pu to the bulb. No doubt you will find it!
-
Check the voltage regulator also! ;)

I think his regulator does all the other lights. I believe the head light is run straight from the stator on AC. Most likely a dirty connection or bad bulb.

I think you may be right on that. I think the headlight and running lights are on the same circuit which runs direct on AC. If the stator is bad I don't think the other lights would work. Maybe a bad switch? Wait just thought about that. The brake lights would be running directly off the battery. Yep, check the stator. I'd do the regulator also just to be sure though.

WD-40 IN the switch... The most obvious is the least seen. " Maybe a bad switch? "

thanks. i had all the front plastic off playing with the wires and it did nothing. i read your post about the stator shook those wires and the lights are back on ;D thanks. i'm not gonna mess with it unless the go out again
