ok with everything being stock how large of a main jet should i anticipate?
and on an older post i saw something about another line the needs a filter if you remove the stock air box if there is can someone post pics?
-
Not sure on the jet, but a lot of that is trial and error to begin with. I think the extra line you are referring to may be the crank-case ventilation. It really just comes down to having to put a filter on any additional lines leading from the air box. Don't just plug them!
-
..i wish i could say what jet you're gonna need...but it seems my scoot has always ran a larger jet than most ppl here...
..just do plug chops as you go, and trust what your scoot is telling you...

Mine had a K+N it had an 88 jet and a washer under the needle, I put it back to stock but thats how it was.
-
whats the easier or better way to go about the fuel mixture going with a jet that works or messing with the needle? and could someone post pics of the needle your all referring to?
and what size range should i get 88 - 110?
-
The needle is for metering the fuel from about 1/4-3/4 throttle. The main jet does the 3/4-full throttle range. With just an air filter mod you should be able to get away w/ 2-3 sizes bigger than the stock jet. http://www.flydiver.com/HTML/Delorto%20Carburetor%20Tuning%20Guide.html (http://www.flydiver.com/HTML/Delorto%20Carburetor%20Tuning%20Guide.html) This site has more info on the basic carbs. we all run. The needle runs into the main jet, and depending on the size/setting it will alter the fuel flow through the jet.
-
so what is the stock jet size?
also did you mean i will only need to up the jet a couple of sizes or will i have to mess with the needle
also what k&n should i get and is there a place that sells tuner sets of jets for a decent price?
-
found a site that has some cool stuff maybe this will help someone else
http://www.scootercraft.com/product_info.php?info=p23077_Naraku-Carburetor-M4-Main-Jet-Set---Kymco-Filly---GY6.html (http://www.scootercraft.com/product_info.php?info=p23077_Naraku-Carburetor-M4-Main-Jet-Set---Kymco-Filly---GY6.html)
they also have the pilot jets as well

also a thought just hit me what happens if the k&n filter gets wet?
like when im riding home in the rain
-
When I park at work (a very dirty place) and when I wash it I just slip a stubby holder over the filter, is a perfect fit.
-
so what is the stock jet size?
Stock main jet from the factory on an A50 is an 80 if its restricted, an 82 if not.
-
yeah but what about when i ride home in a heavy downpour
-
It has never been a problem on mine. Just stay out of the deep stuff. I also spray PB Blaster on it about once a week to repel water.
-
oh OK didn't think of that
cool thanks for the info
i requested a week off for labor day so unless something bad happens i will have a new paint job new filter new jets and one bitch'in ride ;D
and a high performance clutch kit (if i get lucky)
which kinda reminds me do you guys think that a 1k rpm contra + 5grm rollers + some slightly stronger than factory clutch springs would work with my stock setup? and what kind of enhancement could i expect
-
That set up will give you more rpm's and a quicker launch/midrange. You will be cruising at higher rpm's but I think the difference is well worth it. One thing to be carefull of is if you use any 1 part spray can enamel they are not fuel proof. Lacquer, and urethanes are.
-
oh i know there is a clear enamel that I'm going to get for a top coat
so what is involved in modding the needle?

..ultimately, even with everything i've done to my scoot, i've wound up with th needle in it's stock position..
..there is no adjustments that can be made to the needle without actually grinding it's head flat, filing some off the nylon retaining clip, and placing a washer beneath the head of the needle...
..if you install the K&N, you will probably need to increase your main jet size, and an 88 is a good starting point, but you probably won't have to mod the needle...
..just speaking from what i've gone thru...

cool
know of any good place to buy spark plugs in bulk? ;D

..you might try Stadium Yamaha.com...
-

-

-
That's what I do for a living! Fiberglass fabrication, and painting. I specialize in boats. I have sprayed 150' yachts, (Awl Grip 2 part urethane) Right down to Show Parts on custom vehicles. Whacha Wanna Know?

Wow, 5 bucks a plug for me.
..ouch!...plug chops could get expensive down under!!!...
-
how hard would it be to repaint my scoot (just the colored part around seat and the part around the head light) my self using spray cans and make it look good and last?
and what would be the steps?
-
...that's how i painted mine...
..removed the backrest, seat and rack..
..sanded everything down...I actually used scotch-brite pad for sanding (all I had handy)
...masked off the floorboard and motor compartment, headlamp, handlebar cowl...etc...
..primed with a GOOD quality spray primer...sanded and primed again...
...then painted with a GOOD quality paint..
..sanded, again, then sprayed on a final coat...
..'course, i went with a semi-gloss nearly flat black, so i wasn't concerned with the shine...
-
It is a real easy deal Dark, Why don't you post it in a new thread, and I can go into it in depth w/ you. Slinger highlighted for you, and it really is just that easy!
-
