Title: need some feed back
Post by: Dark13 on April 01, 2010, 12:04:52 PM
i really want more luggage space but i really don't like the look (or cost ) of top cases so i thought to my self why not make my own saddle bag style luggage cases using military ammo boxes how well do you think it could work and what would be the downside as far as balance and such

to give you a better visual this is the kind of box I'm talking about

if it can work out it would be a hell of a lot cheaper at most 20 bucks a can then i can pick up some scrap steel from my dads job me and him can do the welding, painting and mounting our selves  at most i see it costing right at $50

First drawback that comes to mind is weight. The darn things are heavy! :(

You could always give it a try see how it works out and if your not happy you could take them off and try something else.  I would think they would work, I have seen saddle bags that had tons of stuff in them that weighed a good amount and had no problem.

I like the idea!  It would look really good on a Ruckus!  Very utilitarian!  It shouldn't be hard to figure out some brackets to hold them!

I cut small pieces of water proof canvas I had to keep the rain out of my store bought goods .Got some half inch plywood fitted it to the tops .Hardware store 2 hindges and 2 locks to hold them tight .OH I painted the wood .Good luck . I would like to put storage on my bike but I dont really want anything on the sides, I wouldnt mind having a box on the back but they are too pricey I found one on ebay thats like a 10x10" for 14 bucks that mounts to an electric scoot but seems a little small for much storage, might be worth it though.
