Title: I HAVE MY 105 jet and by thursday I will have my K&N air filter
Post by: Kimcofan on March 30, 2010, 05:32:09 AM
So looks like its time for some carb tuning.  I feel pretty confident after all the excellent feedback from everyone.  I hope this goes more smoothly than everything else I have modified.  Anywho my main question now is what kind of performance am I looking at with the 72 kit, the rejetted carb, cut cdi, unrestricted variator, 6g rollers, and a brand spanking new shiny K&N?

Im starting to feel like a new man, but I still have a few more projects ahead of me.

I will It should all be finished up hopefully this weekend, I am very very excited about keeping up with the 4 wheeled vehicles.  I am tired of getting run over.  I still have my transmission mods to do but that is for a later time.

I would have to say 50ish is the standard. The extra cc's will get you there quicker tho!

I was hoping for 55-60 I would like at least 55 but 60 for a real nice cushion I was hoping I could cruse at 50 and have that 5-10mphs for just in case.

It's still a 4t. They just don't run as strong at higher rpm's

wordslinger has a 4t and he buries his speed odometer looks like he gets 55 or so and he didnt even put the bbk on his scoot why is that?

...she'll do like 45-47 on the flats...i'm not sure what my top speed is downhill just yet...

..and i do believe that my A50 is of a different build than some othrs..

..my scoot was made in KYMCO's Changzhou facility...they do something different with the piston and rings at that plant...

Well I guess I will have to deal with the 50mph which will be fine, I came across a honda scoot a few weeks ago that blew me out, looking forward to some speed.

..i havn't been busted by very many...

..the thing with the 4ts is that it takes a lil longer to get to top speed..and with the 49.5cc, even with all my mods, i'm still at the mercy of the big hills and a good headwind...

..once i get to "top speed", i can sustain much better with the mods i've done...and a lil bit of drafting goes a llonnng way now...

..can you say "Drag Reduction"...that is the key...

..i live @ 16.5 miles from work, and i made it home a cpl day ago in under 24 minutes...1/4 of that run is in the city...but again, i had a good tail-wind, and was in a swift moving line of traffic most of the way...

..i've contemplated a 70 kit, but now i'm not so sure...I like my engine pretty good....

Kymcofan, You're also limited by the gearing in your final reduction.  A bbk doesn't necessarily increase how fast the engine can rev!  You can only spin the clutch so fast!  To really get the benefit of the additional torque of a bbk you have to change the reduction gears to allow you to go faster.  Otherwise, the bbk will just get you to your top speed faster!

So what is the process of changing the gears...I pretty much only want 55-60mph or so.  I was hoping that would be possible with some carbtuning and minor trans work ie molassi variator and new clutch spring.

I just swapped my secondary gears in my ZX50 about 3 wks ago.  It was a pretty easy swap besides having to take the "intermediate gear" to the auto shop down the street to have the new cog pressed.  It has taken some cvt tuning to get my low end back, but I've got it back about where it was before now but with an easy 6 -10 mph gain on the top!  I've almost had it up to 60 mph the other day drafting some cars.  I'm certain I could have made it, but the cars always slow down before I get there!  I've got pics of the whole installation process, just haven't had the time to do a write up to go along with them.

hey shaka what size gears  did you have. i live in hawaii and we mod honda dio and sym dd50 and make them go 70-80mph.i current have a sym dd50 with 7.4 gear, 28mm oko carb, 72cc polini corsa race, upgraded trans and V8 pipe.ive been hitting about 65 mph so fars still breaking in.man if you want the best 72cc go with the polini corsa.call Quick Fix if you need and parts frank 8085930007.he has everything you need to make your jug motor scream

Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely keep that in mind for when I'm ready to do another jug.  I hear Hawaii is the place to be for modding scoots!  I'm currently running an 8.62:1 final ratio.  Stock it was 10.65:1.  I swapped the secondary gear to a 15/42 from the stock 13/45.  I had a hell of a time finding a gear set for my ZX!  It is my understanding that the Sym and Dio use different gears.  On a positive note, I hit a new top speed today of about 58 mph indicated!  The needle was fully clear of the 90 kmh mark!

G'Day Shaka, you said your speedo went past the 90 kmh mark? mine only goes to 80, though two days ago on a slight downhill run I had it go past the fuel gauge and pointing to the handle of the oil can, though I think my calibration is way off.
Title: Re: I HAVE MY 105 jet and by thursday I will have my K&N air filter
Post by: Shaka on April 08, 2010, 04:24:01 AM
Interesting!  Mine goes up to 100 kmh but the last marked dash is 90.  It also has 60 mph labeled on the small numbers on the inside.  My calibration seems to be fairly accurate.  I think the larger tires made up for at least some of the inaccuracy.
Title: Re: I HAVE MY 105 jet and by thursday I will have my K&N air filter
Post by: sidthesloth on April 08, 2010, 04:32:36 AM
Yeah, mine goes to 80kmh~50mph, there is plenty of room for more, just no more marks. Does yours by chance have a high beam indicator light? My front tyre is a 110/70~12 which would explain some of the inaccuracy.

Post by: Shaka on April 08, 2010, 05:15:32 AM
No high beam.  That was the same tire I had stock.  I put on the Avon Viper Stryke's in 120/70-12 and 130/70-12.  If you haven't done new tires yet, they are one of the best upgrades you can do!  Especially with the newly added speed!  ;)

I am not able to get avon viper stryke so I went with a Continenta conti~twist, still $75 not fitted, will do the front when I get some more $$$, hopefully next week. (sorry about the threadjack).

I know the Dio gears are different than my ZX, not sure on the Sym.  It was difficult to find a set that anyone was willing to confirm fit for me!  I'm currently running 8.5g Dr. Pulley sliders.  I'm still working on getting the cvt re-dialed.  It's really close!  I may ideally need to go .5g or less lighter on the sliders and one step stiffer on the clutch springs.  I've already lightened the sliders by .5g and gone one step stiffer on the clutch springs with a new clutch.  My next project is getting the jug re-set and new piston rings.  I never quite got the jug height right on initial install due to detonation and clearance issues so I think my port durations may be too low and my squish too big.  As for a temp gauge, I'm pretty sure I would have burned it up by now if it was going to so I'd rather save the $80 for something else, like a tach! ;)  Thanks for the tips though!  It's nice to get some informative input!

you should run 1500 torque spring

This has become a total hi-jack!  Anyways, I was initially going to get a 1500 torque spring.  If I do that I will need to go heavier on the rollers.  I was thinking of trying the Malossi green spring which is the next step stiffer from my current white one.  I may still try one and see what happens.

i run 9 gram dr pulley with the 1500 but may be different with you because you have 12in rims

What size rims does your Sym have?  I will try the torque spring soon.  That would really suck if I ended up having to get more 9g sliders.  I drilled out the center of mine to get them to 8.5g.  I do have some new 9g Malossi rollers I could always use though.

mine wheels are 10in.but you should worry about the weight because you have the right sizes.it will probley be an 8g or 8.5 but idk.you just have to try it.with the 1500 spring youll get more top end and mid range but for me i get all around power because of the pipe im running (V8).i messed with the weights  and for top end the heavier the weight the better. if you want to 60mph youll need the 1500 spring and then find the weight that get you there.

hi sidthesloth what kind of moped do you have a zx50? yes there are, i top out at 65mph and it will be 75mph soon because change my ratio from 7.4 to 6.7. this pipe here is an all around pipe but more bottom end midrange.more for people who do wheelies. but i like it because it still get me over 60mph with great bottom end.my sym wheelies with this pipe but not full wheelies because i tuned it for top end highway driving.what your set up? polini corsa bore is the best 72cc out there

G'Day customx22, I have a 2007 ZX50, great little scoot, I bought a kit off ebay from a seller in taiwon, but it is not looking too good, it seems the ports are not as they should be, but that's life, try too save a few bucks and it costs more in the end. What I want is good pickup with ability to cruise at 80kph with ease, wit my current setup it goes off the speedo which is 80 so mainly I want more pickup. These are a great toy to play with, though it is not as good as it should be it is still enjoyable working on it. The speeds you are talking about sound a bit scary on one of these scooters, but it woud be fun to try.

ya youll need maybe 8to1 gear. youll have a lot of pick up but make sure your jetting is right. the pipe you bought is the right pipe for what you wanted to do(low end mid range.ye it normal for it to turn brown.you need to paint the pipe so it does rust but mainly if you live near salt water like here in hawaii

OK heads up the v8 i have is typhoon that for stock motor to 72cc but low end to  mid-range pipe.the other v8 is the hurricane this is a mid-top end pipe this is the one you should get.i have the typhoon.it a decent pipe.i just bought the ultimate pipe PG LONG mid-top high rev pipe will get you about 5mph more that v8 hurricane.ways to tell which v 8 you have is if you don't have the badge you have a typhoon and the one with badge is hurricane but also check the length of the pipe the hurricane is longer because it has a chamber in it.another thing if the exhaust hole is 33mm you have hurricane and if its 28mm you have the typhoon

G'Day customx22, mine has the badge, inlet pipe is 30mm and canister length is 275mm (from weld to weld). Any idea what rev range that would be? At a guess I would think mid range!? It would be nice if they would give a little info with these items. I must learn to ask more questions before buying.
