Title: stock scoot top speed
Post by: sticlistul on March 23, 2010, 07:29:35 AM
Hello , in first place i will apologize for my english .I am the owner of an agility 50 2007 ,it was derestrict and in first years it seems to be prety fast ,now it don't exceed 55 km \h on flat roud and 60 km\h in slope . The scooter is stock i didn't change anything outside of motor oil and air filter .I have done with scoot 14000 km .I want to know from you guys what is (or was ) your top speed with the stock scoot and tell me if i should go with him to review service or you could tell me what to check on him (i've downloaded from here the service manual ) . thanks and i'm waiting for your opinion

I would suggest rollers, belt, and valve adjustment. The rollers do wear as a normal part of their service life. As they reduce in diameter the scoot will loose top end speed. Same thing goes for the belt. The valves are meant to be adjusted at regular intervals. the manual will have the info. on that. Post anything you need to know as there is a swarm of AG/50 owners here to help. Most of the European marketed AG/50's have limiters that will only allow them to run at 56kph. How fast was yours when it was new?

Thanx for reply .Lets say i will be able to change rollers and belt but at valve adjustement ...it looks complicated and I don't know what it means the 0.04 ,How i know when i have 0.04 at in and ex . Funny is that i don't remember how fast it was when it was new ,but i'm sure that he passed 65 -70 km\h.

..when you change the rollers, look at the "boss" of the variator...it should be smooth, with no "washer"..if not smooth, then you should either purchase a unrestricted boss, or have it machined smooth...I would suggest around 5 gram rollers if you do change them, and they probably are worn out...i run 4.7 gr. in my '08...

..65-70 kmh is about normal for a stock A50..

..valve adjustment is not as hard as it seems...  .04mm is the clearance..

..there are a couple of links th the Agility service manual in this forum, and it is a MUST HAVE manual...

...welcome to the forum!!..

Thanks wordslinger 5 gr it will be than .
an other thing , on flat road when reached 55 -56 km \ h i still have 2 or 4 mm to handle and hear the engine rpm increasing but the speed remains on 55-56, just when i go down a slope barely catch 60 ...

..there's also the cdi to think about...if you could post a pic of your cdi, we might could determine whether you can notch it to eliminate the electronic rev limiting feature it has...

...i'd definately say you need new rollers though...
Title: Re: stock scoot top speed
Post by: sticlistul on March 23, 2010, 01:12:17 PM
CDI it is derestrict . my uncle change it ,i don't know if that boss it is derestrict  but i will see .

About the belt ,two days ago i've open the  transmission cover to grease the foot pedal and the belt seemed too tense, that's how should it be?

I saw you have Leo Vince 4.7 gr rolles ,it will be good for my stock scoot?
Title: Re: stock scoot top speed
Post by: wordslinger on March 23, 2010, 01:22:16 PM
..the belt shouldn't be extremely tight...you can squeeze the outter clutch pulley, and loosen it, but i don't know how tight you mean...

..if it's too small, that would restrict your top speed...and i'm not sure how it would affect performance overall...

..i like the 4.7gr in my setup...a lot quicker off the line...they'd probably work well for you too...
Title: Re: stock scoot top speed
Post by: sticlistul on March 23, 2010, 03:20:06 PM
I don't think it's to small beacouse it's the original one but i don't know it seems to be to tight, when i find a foto cam i wil take a picture or a video to see ,i've beraly move 2 mm up or down .

I've readed here on forum about iridium spark plug ,it works on stock scoot with no problem ?

Other question if you guys don't mind , wordslinger from what i read on forum you changed air filter and for what I understand you have to change the main jet to ... the question is with how much increasd gasoline consumption ?
Title: Re: stock scoot top speed
Post by: wordslinger on March 23, 2010, 03:38:59 PM
...ok on the pic...

...iridium will work fine...not sure which one you'ld need tho...

..anytime you go to a high-flow air filter or exhaust, you must tune your carburetor...

..when i bought my scoot, it was getting about 95 mpg....now with all my mods, it's probably more like 50...maybe less...haven't checked it really...

...i'm more concerned about mph than mpg...lol..

f%^k 6l/100km thats a lot ,i prefer to remain with stock air filter :)).

I will attach 2 picture (I think they are from you ,wordslinger) ,I want to know if you can show me where are those 0.04 mm on valve and if someone could explaine me in detail (i'ved looked on manual but i didn't understand from there), tomorow i will check the valves .

Title: Re: stock scoot top speed

...indicated in these pics are where to adjust and check...

..must have the timing gear at "Top-Dead_Center" which is explained in the manual...

Quote from hoolander2

Probably the two biggest mistakes one can make in adjusting valves are:

1. Not letting the motor cool completely before adjusting. This results in a false reading of the gap.

2. Adjusting the gap too small -- this can happen 2 ways.  One can mis-judge the feeling of the feeler guage.  Or, one gets the gap correct, but then when the lock nut is tightened, the gap changes.  Therefore, it is always reccomended to re-check gap after tightening the lock nut.

If the gap is set too small the valves will "burn" or bend.  They need to be in contact with their seats for a certain amount of time during the cycle in order to transfer heat to the head.  If they don't, they stay too hot.  Damage can be done instantly!

Too tight can also damage cam, rocker arm, valve, and more, by putting too much pressure on the entire mechanism.

Oh, and by the way, too large of a gap is not so serious.  It may only result in a slight loss of power.  If it's way too large, this is when tapping or valve "ringing" is heard.  Not terribly serious, but over time can lead to some damage.

It's always better to have an error too large than too small.

I've done some searching and i will need a standard  or stas of 0.4mm for valve adjusting, put in the gap and adjusting until I can remove the standard , in this way i can't go under 0.4 and there's no risk .

rain doesn't smells like gasoline , also at your stock air filter it happens to find leaks of gasoline in the air filter ?

  Derestricting your Agility CDI

this allows you that your Agility runs 9000 rpm
just cut the CDI on a place shown on picture, there is a tiny copper wire which should be cut
Just be careful, do not cut too much

OK I've read enought tomorow i will do the cutting and see the changes when I go to faculty . Thanks wordslinger for information I hope that will go me up to 65 km\h . I hope I don't  forget to remove the tape off my air filter paper :))

yeeaa , I've done the cut it taked a minute... at 3 mm of cuting i've found it . I couldn't wait until tomorow so i've done it . i didn't ride the scoot but i've start the engine and i felt imidiately an increase of RPM . Tomorow i will see how fast it is . I'm not intersted to go very fast ,here in Romania even if the speed limit is over 60 km\h the roud don't let you to go faster :)) it's full of pits .

the only thing it remains now is finding some 4,7-5 gr rollers (the company names it maters?) and if i will have money an iridium spark plug . Thanks for all the help wordslinger . I will let you know about scoot performance .
Title: Re: stock scoot top speed
Post by: sticlistul on March 25, 2010, 04:58:20 PM
It's great now \:D/  top speed on flat is 65 km\h , on downhill 70 km\h ,but i have to say it's prety noise ,I hope next month i will find some money for a revision , or maybe i will check myself . thanks again guys .
wordslinger ,do you have  the stoc engine (50cc)? just with rollers what speed do you gained? i'm not intersted to change the air filter beacouse i will need to change the main jet too and the fuel consumption will be verry hight from what i understand .
Title: Re: stock scoot top speed
Post by: wordslinger on March 25, 2010, 05:51:21 PM
..yeah, my engine is stock 50cc...before i had done any mods, with just the boss and cut cdi, my top speed was about 72-74 kmh..downhill...

..the lighter rollers (5gr) will give you a bit quicker take-off..(stock rollers are 6 gr)...and probably will not affect your top speed...

..glad to hear i could help you out!!!

and on flat roud ? the extra take-off it's verry good for city driving , I already let behind all cars at green light  . I can't find a 0.04 mm model for valve adjusting , i find just 0.05 and 0.08 :(
Title: Re: stock scoot top speed

...65-72 kmh on th flats, i reckon...

..yeah, i like shootin' out in front of the cars...lol...

it happens to anyone here at 14000km to disorder the  valve adjusting ? I don't know if I should get my nose in there :)) I have to get the oil out from the motor before i get the head off ? i don't think so beacouse the level of head is above than dipstick level . contradict me if i'm wrong .
Title: Re: stock scoot top speed
Post by: wordslinger on March 25, 2010, 07:00:37 PM
..at 14,000 km, if they've never been adjusted, they probably need it...

..only have to pull the valve cover off...do draining at all...

..don't let out the crankcase oil.... ;D
Title: Re: stock scoot top speed
Post by: Kimcofan on March 25, 2010, 08:29:19 PM
Just pull the head off you do not have to drain the oil...you need a feeler gauge to adjust the valves....it is not very hard to do loosen the bolts put the gauge under the valves between where they set and tighten the bolts do not over tighten b/c you may mess up you setting.  I just went through all that stuff myself, I just order my jet and should be doing all my carb adjustments this weekend hopefully!
Title: Re: stock scoot top speed
Post by: sticlistul on March 25, 2010, 08:59:18 PM
i understand now , thats the problem i don't have a feeler gauge of 0.04mm i find just 0.05 and 0.08 but i still looking for a 0.04.
I've called to a service and tomorow I will go with scoot to them to make me a list with what is used and need changed ,... after that I will change myself . I hope to have money for pieces ... I've left the mechanic speakless when i told him i didn't do any revision ... I begin to feel sorry for my scoot :( . Until i've downloaded the manual service i didn't know i need  to change oil from transmision ... I hope i didn't wreck anything ...

indeed , the mechanic was surprised when I said it's nothing wrong with the scoot ...he asked me if i hear from the transmision gear something ... but i don't hear anything . I will se tomorow if it is something serious  at scoot after 14000 km without revision ,i hope not .... my budget is limited ,and i don't want to become pedestrian :))

from what i hear from the mechanic air it's at maximum but i don't know what thats means
Title: Re: stock scoot top speed
Post by: Shaka on March 27, 2010, 01:06:26 AM
Sounds like somebody is making more than their share of the average income!!!  He is probably referring to the mix screw.  It may be letting the maximum amount of air into the mix.  I doubt a mechanic would mess with trying to raise the needle as I think on your carb it is more of a custom job.  You may just need to adjust the mix screw in a bit.  Usually about 2 turns out from all the way in is about right.  You are looking for a nice responsive 0 - 1/4 quick throttle snap.  Adjust the screw about 1/8 - 1/4 turn at a time from 2 full turns out to get is set right.  Don't set it more than about 1 turn from full in or you may run the risk of running too lean.  The ideal is probably somewhere between 1 1/2 - 3 turns from full in.

ok , but I need to see a picture with that mix screw to be sure I am looking where it should. the only adjusting screw that i know it's the pilot screw ,for idle adjusting from what i understand...

...do you have the A50 service manual???

..look in section 5 pages 6-12...

..pilot screw is for adjusting the idle mixture...

..throttle stop screw adjust's idle speed...

..your needle is probably just fine...
