I have an Agility 125. It has always run fine, however in the middle of winter it started running rough, and now it wont start.
Battery is good, (Has tender on it)
Spark plug is brand new
New Fuel filter
Fuel had sea foam in it during storage
Clean oil.
Valves have been checked
Fuses are all good.
I even cleaned the jets on the bottom of the carb (removed bowl, which was all clean)
It will turn over but never start! Even with spraying carb cleaner into the intake as I hit the start button.
Gas tank is full, kill switch is on run. ::)
My only guess is maybe the timing is off, carb has an obstruction in it, or maybe the auto-choke device is no longer working.

What kill switch? Agility 125 does not have kill switch.
There is much simpler root cause - microswitch behind the brake levers that actuates the electric circuit, so you can turn the engine on.
Check them first.
A125 will not start if both fuses in the floorpanel are not intact. Once had a problem where both fuses LOOKED good but obviously one of them was faulty at the point where the wire touches the contact metal - so you could not see the breaking point. When I replaced it, it was OK. I would check that too.
Finally, check the auto choke, there is a procedure how to check it in the service manual.

It does in the United States. All two-wheeled vehicles sold new in the U.S. must have one -- and also NO switch to turn off the headlights (and turn indicators must be 16" apart, on-center, etc.)

6-7 years ago most scoots had light switch that could be turned off, then they stopped installing them.
For some reason, few years ago, these switches are again on scoots, so I can completely turn off the light both on P250 and A125.
P250 has kill switch, A125 does not.
No 50 cc scoot has kill switch here, most 125 do not either, almost everything above 125 cc does.

Have you remover the vacuum line to the petcock to test for fuel flow? Carb clean should have given at least an Umph of trying to start unless there is NO spark. have you checked to see if you do have spark?
-
Oh! ps. The micro switches mentioned will only prevent the starter motor from turning. For safety reasons they do not affect ignition.

The motor will turn over and spark. (Pulled plug and it sparked just fine) Also, BOTH fuses are in tact. I could try replaceing them even though they both, visually, look fine. And yes, it DOES have a kill switch, I can post a pic later.

I have not done that specifically however I have replaced the fuel filter, and drained the bowl. Then turned it over several times and the fuel filter filled up and the carb bowl did as well. Plus as I turn it over, I smell unburnt fuel coming out the exhaust. And spark is good. I know it is sparking, I pulled the plug out, put in into the boot and turned the scooter over while holding the plug near the frame. A Good spark was produced.

Ok the other basic check would be compression. It is possible the jet picked up something, and leaned out the fuel mix. That would gradually run the rpm's down untill a no start. With a compression tester you should see a minimum of 100psi. If you don't have access to a tester the next best thing is to pull the cylinder, and inspect all the surfaces for melting or scoring. I found invisible holes on the dome of my piston that only showed on the underside, so take a CAREFUL look. This thread has some picts. http://kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=1759.msg10773#msg10773 (http://kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=1759.msg10773#msg10773)

Have you tried spraying some starter fluid in the intake. If you have spark, it should at least sputter a few times with some starter fluid! That is unless there is no compression!

I have done that. No spark or firing at all. I will check my compression this weekend, i already have the device that measures it. I hope it isnt something serious with my valves. (Which I have checked, the gaps were correct and the chain, ect was all in good shape.)
-
I don't know what to tell you. I hate to say it, but it doesn't sound good! :(
-
AWWW! Como'n shaka... It's just a scoot! How bad can it be???
-
My guess is that if it has spark, but won't fire even with starter fluid, that it doesn't have compression. The first thing I would do is check the timing and pull the head and check the valves. There could even be a carbon deposit that has lodged in the valve seat preventing it from sealing. I would almost be willing to bet that you're going to have to dig a little deeper into the engine itself to solve the problem!
-
What is the procedure to check timing?
-
I'm pretty sure there is a link to a service manual in the general section.
-
I had a problem like this with my bike, although I did have a spark, and it was good I checked the connection on the coil, from the loom they were loose so as much as the spark looked good there was very very little power to ignite the fuel. I just compressed the connectors a little, squeezed them back on and it went.
Take the plug out, and dangle it in the fuel tank (don't drop it ;D) then put it back in. You certainly should get a splutter from that.
I've got a spare engine if you need a part or 2
-
^I will check my ignition again.^
I also have replaced all the fuses, plugged in a known to be working CDI and still no firing.
Should I look into the vacuum lines this thing has? There are tons of them with that stupid catalytic converter and charcoal canisters, ect.
I am also thinking about putting a new auto-choke in the carb.
-
Here'e the service manual Kymco Agility 125 R16 EN (http://www.scribd.com/doc/18032572/Kymco-Agility-125-R16-EN#key3jcl2in4nj0o41d374f) I wouldn't suspect the timing as much as a hung valve. Have you done the comp. test? I would before buying a new scoot 1 piece at a time. Been there Done that!

Can u check, pulser coil...
Its installed too low and get very dirty on road....
-
The Pulser coil can be tested for a short to ground going from the: blue w/yellow stripe to ground. it should read open otherwise there is no resistance test to do on it. I have 1 time seen a pulser coil fail in thirty years of twisting wrenches. The manual does have the values for testing the stator regulator ect...
-
Scooter has been fixed! Any guesses what it was? ::)
*Hint. Very simple, but unexpected.
-
Ignition switch?
-
Simpler than that.
Originally I checked my spark plug by removing it, putting it back into the boot, and making sure it sparked when I turned the scooter over (hitting the e-start button) Which it did. However I just recently put in a brand new plug and it fired right up. I guess that test is not always reliable when trying to determine if the plug is still good.
Thanks for the help everyone, this is a great forum and I will defiantly stay active as I also have a Kymco Cobra Cross 50 (Top Boy).
-
Well Welll Welllll, Leson learned. Stick around Bro!
-
Well the scooter is having the same problem. Once again I put a new plug it in and it ran for a day. Now its dead again. It turns over fine, the old plug looks to be in great shape. So im assuming the scooter is not running too rich or lean.
I have also put a new coil on it and it still will not spark. This is making me think it may be the pulsar coil or maybe the CDI? What do you guys think?
-
Did you eliminate the kill switch.I have had bikes do this before bad connection would work fine then nothing, would show spark, but it was too weak to fire, took it out of the loop and all works great now,If you have done that allready, the coil is cheaper to replace ;D I don't know how to test those parts
-
How do I check the kill switch?
Also, I checked the ground on the coil and it is good, i need to check the + wire that leads to the coil, but where does it run to? The pulsar coil in the stator?
-
Not sure how to test i just removed it from the loop, take a good look at it sometimes its obviouse. It's a free check before you have to start buying more parts, can't help you much with the rest.I would think the coil lead would go to the cdi
-
...sounds like you might have a wire going to ground somewhere...
..i had a very similar problem with my 2001 people..
..found a wire beneath the front cowl that had rubbed against the frame and was arcing to ground shorting the whole system...
-
(http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/8500/agilitystator.png)
Has anyone done this test? Or does anyone know where the "green wire terminals" is? I found the blue/yellow, that come strait from the stator. I just cant seem to find the green terminal they are referring too.
-
Hi,
got the same problem over the winter.
Seems to me that cable from ignition coil to cap spark is just poor quality.....
Check this, cut a little bit and screw it back on.....also spark cap is poping out from heat if u like me are driving at high rpm at full throttle...
im still recovering from my accident, like to drive at this weather......damn car drivers
-
True, I have an aftermarket ignition coil on it.
And just to let everyone know I finally found the actual problem with the scooter!!!!!
It was the pulsar coil. It was not grounding. I did the test above and it wasn't grounding, so I moved down the wire till I ended up at the pulsar coil. I removed the OEM one and soldered a new one and it have been running perfectly.

...WOO-HOOO!!
..love them success stories!!
