Title: negotiating with dealer for 500 rI
Post by: kopilot on March 01, 2010, 04:42:26 AM
hello everyone.  i'm a virgin newbie (first post) who is going to negotiate with dealer here in texas on tuesday for a 2009 500 ri demo.  mileage is <500. it is abs and appears new. ie; no scratches, nicks, dings that were noticeable on cursory inspection.  any idea on what might be a fair price? i'm thinking around 5800 bucks for the bike.  sound reasonable?
muchas gracias ;D

Welcome Kopilot, Here's the kelly blue book page for the scoot. It's a grand lower than you thought. It will be a used bike the second you sign the paper, The same is true for them selling it as a Demo. Good luck to you , and let us know how it goes. Ps. They are paying interest on a bank note every month for it to sit there. So I would come out swinging.

thanks for quick reply amigo,  so you are thinking more like 4800?
that would be sweet!  i usually get beat up on these sort of deals because
i have no patience.  i just want to get the scooter and go ride.  thanks again.

Don't be offended if the dealer balks at your offer, though. Chances are good that he's had that scooter on his floor through a dealer floor plan, which means he gets the privilege of paying $100+ every month for it to sit there, unsold.

life is too short to get too offended.  problem is he is a really good guy and runs a great store that  he has owned for a long time.  most likely if he makes a decent offer i'll split the difference on what i am thinking and see how it falls out.  maybe a topcase and some soft saddlebags at his cost or something. bottom line is i should be rolling on a cool, reliable maxi with a 2 yr warranty which i hope never gets used. lifes not too bad.
thanks for all the replies and wish me luck.

I just got a 2009 Xciting 500 ABS a couple of weeks ago. I paid $5999, no prep or freight charge. No mileage.

Straight up deal. I think they were looking to make floor space. Plus, this is the third scoot I have bought from the dealer. Super Scooterstore of America. Ya gotta love 'em :-)

Well, one liter of gasoline was here close to 2 US$, now it's 1.50 US$. I remember that USA was shaken when the gasoline prices went up few years ago and at the time it was 4 times less expensive than here and average salaries were in USA ten times bigger.

It's Mirko Filipovic, Cro-Cop is just a stupid brand name.

Before he started fighting professionally he was a special police forces member. (our equivalent of SWAT team).
He is also a representative in Croatian Parliament.

Some more trivia: necktie, parachute and torpedo are Croatian inventions. In fact, the company I work for has welding lab in the old factory where Torpedo was invented 150 years ago.

Now back to Xciting 500 topic. :)

I did not know that about parachute. Wow.

I saw Mirko Filipovic once in person. He is one mean looking and freaking huge dude. I'd not like to mess with him. I'd simply break down and cry if he spoke to me. :)
