We have snow here one or two days per year, sometimes not even one day (for example, last year).
However, this year we had snow three times in total duration of 6 days and tomorrow/the day after tomorrow the forecast is snow again...
Does anybody have personal or second hand experience with snow chain for rear tire?
I`ve seen also some kind of spray that applies rubbery sticky substance to the tire that can last 5-8 kms... enough to reach the main road that is supposed to be cleaned... however I do not remember the manufacturer or the brand of this spray...
Is there "economy" version available somewhere (and that can be shipped to the rest of the free world and not only USA...)

...well, at least on my scoot, there isn't enough clearance between the tire and the engine casing for much of a chain...hhmmm...

You are right, and the mud guard would be on the way too...

Not to mention that the vibration caused by the chain would make the handling really scary. :-\

Probably less scary than with plain touring tires at 2.4 bar. :)

I have used screw in studs in the past. They will cost around $35.00 for a set that will do 2 tires, and you may have a few extra. The only draw back is they are permanent to the tire Jc Witney carries them for auto tires

unfortunately, outside Der Bund, Heidenau is unheard of. :( Not on sale here where I live.
However, I have a friend working in Muenich for SAP and he is here pretty much every month, so I might consider buying them...
Chains or things like that would be much more useful, as there are between 1 and 5 days in the year when I need to move on two wheels and it's snowing...

Now we are on to something! So, once you screw them in, no removal is possible?
I think JC Witney might be few thousand kms too far for me, but I might check some Scandinavian online shops...
It would be handy if I could remove them when not needed though...
Now, this is a good idea, if somebody carries winter gear for bikes/scoots, it must be Scandinavian people... will look into that...

Here's a link that has studs designed for scooter tires. They also have an international phone # so they may be able to help a little more. I have used these for years on MotoX bikes.

If you look up the manufacturer of the studs you may have better luck getting them to Croatia. I know they are made in Taiwan, and I saw a company in China that will install them for you. I used a cordless drill w/ a chuck made for them. I looked around but cannot find the chuck but it was only 5-7 dollars as I remember. Good luck axy. What is the problem? If you need a U.S. address you can Drop Ship thru mine. If there is a reliable shipping company that ships to Croatia, I can order what you need, and post it myself to you. It must be hell to be left out of the circuit....Let me know what I can do to help!

Heidenau told me, they unfortunately have no actual importer in Croatia, but in Romania, Bulgaria, Austria, Italy etc.
Croatia is surrounded by supported countries, there should be a way for "smuggling" the tires.

No trouble at all! If I can help by shipping parts your way, simply email or pm me. It seems crazy to have a thing like shipping stop you from enjoying your ride. I receive most orders in 4-5 days, so I would think another 5-7 from here.

It is interesting that pretty much nobody sells them, at least not on the Internet. There is just one German company that sells a set of five snow claws for 110 EUR. ( http://www.mv-motorrad.de/lshop,showdetail,2004g,e,,,10107,,,.htm (http://www.mv-motorrad.de/lshop,showdetail,2004g,e,,,10107,,,.htm) )I would have to pay at least 50 % import taxes on top of that and this would be enough only for rear tire. Even Chinese do not sell chains for scoots or bikes on Alibaba Express. Obviously it is not very much in demand. :)
It is possible to find so called "emergency" claws here and there on some web shops and they also cost a lot and I am not sure just one claw would serve the purpose.
A friend of mine (who lives 500 kms away!) volunteered to help and with my idea and his material and work, I have a set of double chains for my People! (there are five per wheel).
To be honest, I have just received them and hope they will go under the rear fender as there is barely 2 cm of free space (and I have somewhat worn out rear tire, the new one would be even higher).
Now, I am fully equipped and just have to wait for the next snow (had it twice this year already and usually have it maybe once or twice per year for a duration of one or two days max. where I live).

Unfortunately, if you are having problems with rear wheel traction, you'll prolly have front wheel traction problems too!
How to tell you have Rear Wheel Traction problems:
- High RPMs
- Low/No speed
- Great Rooster Tail
How to tell you have Front Wheel Traction problems:
- The rubber side of the scoot is not on the bottom
- The shiney side of the scoot is not on top
- Scratches are apparent on your helmet/elbows/etc.

What we used to do with dirt bikes and dual purpose bikes is get an old set of tires. Then put wood screws in them, from the inside out. The amount/pattern is left to your whim. Then mount the tire with a tube.
From personal experience - THIS WORKS GREAT. However. The tire will be horridly out of balance, and it isn't very kind to a bare, dry street.
I am not proud to say (Actually, I am really proud of it, but not supposed to be), I used to ride in snowy/icy conditions on my motorcycle, sticking my feet out at 'safety outriggers'. I really don't recommend this at all - but at the time it was a necessity for me.

They sell ice screws specifically designed to added to knobby tires.... to the outside of the tire.

My needs are very specific. As I said, we have snow here two times per year and it usually lasts for a total of 3-4 days.
For these occasions I want to be ready (because so far I always had to drive with regular tires on the snow!)
Therefore, I cannot change tires, use studs etc.
There are two sets in the picture above, one is for the front and the other for the rear wheel.

A friend tested it, the rope tends to break easily.
The road safety law says nothing here about winter gear for motorcycles: I guess that they do not think there is an idiot in the country that would drive a motorcycle in snow. >:)
Studs have been forbidden for decades here.
I do not care about cops: when there is snow, the traffic is stuck and they are the least of all my worries... they are stuck somewhere behind with all the cagers on summer tires. >:)
