Hi all!

http://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=1595.0 (http://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=1595.0) is a very old thread that i dug up. i have 2013 S8 125cc (could not find the right board for it this seemed closest) has someone come up with a alternative to replacing the CDI to recitify the headlights not working issue? the CDI here (South Africa) cost the equivalent to $130US so i'm really keen to get some alternative. any after marker non-oem product that would be better that you are aware of?

CDI has nothing to do with the headlights. The problem is elsewhere.

yes it does. see the attachment from the FSM. was hoping there was some work around for this...

The Light Control is the module that automatically reduces power to the headlights when you stop. It's a piece of crap, and is notorious for failing. When it does, the headlights don't work.
On my 2012 Super8 150, I just unplugged it, and bypassed it.
The module is in the nose, behind the headlights. It looks like a CDI box. On the wires that plug into it, just jump the 2 blue wires together and the 2 white wires together. Those are the power wires for the low beams and the high beams. Then the headlight comes on when you turn the ignition on. I did it on mine after the Light control module failed, and was replaced under warranty, 3 times!
Headlights have been fine for over a year and a half since, and haven't had any issues with the battery charging.
The picture is from an older model, but the wires are the same on the newer ones.

There ya go, California! DM has the thing you should try first before you think about the CDI.

PS: DM's fix was tried by another with the same problem and it worked just like he said. This was done today.

YESSS!! thank you!!  that was exactly what i was looking for! i knew there was a work around.

so do you basically bypass the entire light control box?

Yep Caiforniaman, just bypass it. It's junk.
Plus, in my opinion, cutting the power to the headlights at stops just seems unsafe and dumb. Most of us get almost hit by cars enough as it is!!

Done it, and it sorted me right out! thanks so much!

my biggest problem was that i could not find  a proper complete wiring diagram for this scooter. that would have been handy. but i'll keep searching.

They seem to use the same string circuit diagram for all the models they make.
