Title: Miles Rode
Post by: wkreps on December 05, 2015, 07:59:15 PM
2014 was my first year of scootering. First year of riding anything 2 wheeled other than a bicycle. I put 3700 miles on my newly purchased (March 2014) 2013 Super8 150 (Bandit) from March to November 2014. I promptly got Bandit back out of winter storage in the Spring of 2015 and started riding. The goal was to hit 10,000 miles by the end of the riding season As of the beginning of December 2015 Bandit has 8300 miles. Well short of the 10,000 I had hoped for. But there's a twist! Enter "Mike the Tiger" my newly aquired 2010 KYMCO Xciting 500Ri. Mike entered the household near the end of September. I immediately put 150 miles on him just getting him home from the dealer I bought him from. Since I've logged 1000 miles on Mike and Bandit has felt like an old worn out shoe that nobody wants to wear. Realistically that puts us at 9300 miles, just 700 shy of the Spring goal of 10,000. I don't believe I'll get to the goal with 3 weeks of winter riding. With battery issues in the Xciting I'm down for a few days til the new Lithium battery comes in. Even if I don't hit the goal, I had a hellava time coming close. 2016 brings thoughts of a summer tour through multiple states, more scamping and the normal commutes to work. I can't wait.

Wayne, I've enjoyed reading your posts and watching some of your youtube vids. Like you, I recently picked up my first 2 wheeled motorized vehicle and love it. I remember you saying something (youtube vid?) about your coworkers saying you'd be trading up to a big bike, soon...love to hear why you decided to step up!

Tell us a little more about your new scoot.

Congrats! I recently purchased a DT 300 in June, and have only 3300 miles on her. That's a lot of riding you've been doing.

Post links to your YouTube videos.

A video review of my Xciting500 is forthcoming. Just need to make the time to put my thoughts together and vid it. Stepping up was as simple as I wanted to do more with a scooter than I had previously imagined before I bought the Super8. I'll put a vid together on that also. Me likes to video. :)

Wayne,
Congratulations it seems like you are really enjoying your scoots.  Always enjoy your posts...traveling on a scooter is challenging but fun. I have not put many miles on mine this year due to domestic problems, but fully expect to enjoy multiple scooter vacations in 2016 from my (now) empty house.  A good thing.
Stay Safe.

Wayne:
Its good to hear about your rides. We can ride just about year round here in Vegas except maybe July and August. From labor day to about the beginning of June is not so bad. I have my car and I do not do as much riding as I should. With the cooler weather upon Vegas one can ride just about everyday.

Dang, Wayne! I ride all year, even in winter, and I didn't even clock that many miles!!
Even counting the 2500 miles I put on my motorcycle, you're still ahead of me.
I gotta get busy with the weekend joy riding.

I checked the odometers on my bikes this morning and calculated my mileage for this year.  It was EXACTLY 20,000 miles.  Slightly over half of that was on my scooters, the rest on my 2 motorcycles.  That makes 2015 my best year of riding, at least as far as miles rode, since 1991 when I rode around 27K.

There's still a couple of weeks left in the year but I don't expect to ride that much more.  It's great living somewhere where the weather allows of year round riding and there are plenty of great places to ride nearby.

I went for a ride yesterday and took this picture which I think is appropriate for the time of year.  BTW, it was around 75 degrees which is really warm for this time of year even this far south.
