Hello guys. What is the advantage of this spring? 800 RPM? What are your thoughts on this?

Contra springs over time get compressed and loose some memory and ability to put tension on the rear clutch pulley which causes slow "downshifting" and a loose belt. This also can affect hill climbing and acceleration as it too easily allows the CVT to get into a higher gear early, and stay there too long under a load. If your scoot has any mileage or age on it, you cannot go wrong getting an original Kymco spring for your scooter. You would notice a definite increase in smoothness and performance. I have tried other performance parts for my People 150 and have learned the hard way that the Kymco engineers knew what they were doing when they made these things. Hope this helps.

I got a no name budget spring for my Kymco People 150. The brand was Koso and the spring was the same RPM as the original. It worked well when I installed it for about 20 miles, and then my scooter started bogging down on acceleration and struggling to climb hills. When I pulled the spring out to check it, it had compressed more than an inch versus the original. I went with original spring and all is good now. Live and learn I guess.

Does the OEM spring need replacing.....lets say on a 6 year old engine? Thinking about replacing mine for the heck of it. What are your thoughts.

It would not hurt but probably not necessary unless you are having drive train issues. If you are mechanically inclined and like working on things, I would say go for it. If not, be happy with what you have and ride it. Here is a link to an OEM Kymco spring if you decide. Verify it is the correct model for you. I am about to do the 15 mile commute to work on my People 150. I love riding my scooter. I would LOVE to have a Downtown!

Before replacing the contra spring , one has to check the length compared to the recommended specification length which you should check in the service manual , and then change , replacing does not depend upon age of the vehicle .
