Title: Like 50 swapped main jet now won't start
Post by: paceneedsstides on October 30, 2015, 06:16:31 AM
so I got the carb loose swapped the main jet from my 2013 Like 50 LX it was a 70 put an 82 in (it's what came with the derestricted bushing) now it won't start what did I do wrong As far as I know only hose I took off was one vacumn hose to get carb off and it is back on.

I am still at a complete loss as to what is wrong I have taken the carb off swapped back to the 70 no start taken the carb off swapped back to the 82 no start I've adjusted the flow screw from one extreme to the other in 1/4 turn increments no difference my only thought is maybe somehow its not getting gas no because as much as I'm trying to start it I would expect a strong smell of gas and alot of gas draining when I take carb off but have only seen a little anyone have any input I am at a total loss.

Ok it's not the gas lines I put the 70 jet back on and took the gas like off carb and pushed the starter and gas started flowing it also starts when I take the plug out and put starter fluid in there but it dies when it burns that up so its gotta be in the carb I have checked both jets and they are clear but its obviously something with the fuel and carb need help

I am outta breath reading your posts 'cause there is no punctuation! Not too sure what your message is except it won't start.

Yeah I'm not the best when it comes to using punctuation the gist is put in bigger jet won't start. Reinstalled smaller jet won't start. Starts with starter fluid but won't keep running.  Gas gets to carb but not sure from there because plug is dry. Don't know what the issue is at a loss for what it could be.

Hi, Is it possible that when you installed the new jet that you either got the float stuck in closed position , or that you put a hole in the vacuum diaphragm in the carb? Either of these thing would allow gas to reach the carb but NOT flow into the engine. Another thing to check is the operation of the auto choke valve. It is the black solenoid attached to the carb on one side. There is a wire leading to it. Is it still attached? This would make cold starting difficult if it is not functioning.

I have taken the carb apart again twice and nothing seems to be stuck or not working everything is plugged up my hope and prayer is it's something very simple I just don't know what it could be this.

The bigger jet has nothing to do with starting and idling.

Good to hear! I hope that means that your scoot is up to snuff now? ;)

Yes and since I'm only 30 miles from scheduled 200 mile maintenance will wait till then and let them change the jet and bushing for me lol I have 2 yr warranty and don't feel like losing that cuz I mess something up next time that ain't simple.

Sounds like a good plan!

Yeah I'm pretty mechanically inclined but I don't need to get ahead of myself on this one it's brand new I just want a lil more performance out of it like 35-40mph then its all about dependability and looks since its gonna be a daily driver.

Will the warranty cover "performance modifications", or will any such modifications void the warranty?
Might read through the paperwork again....

It doesn't cover damage caused by installing parts to increase performance but derestricting it with the parts supplied by Kymco with their warranty and owners manual and tool kit shouldn't be an issue. Also while they don't cover damage caused by trying to increase performance it doesn't say that increasing performance voids the warranty seems like as long as things stay reasonable and I have parts installed by the dealer and have dealer do scheduled routine maintenance and keep records then everything should be fine. Like I said not going after huge gains just slightly better then scooter should do derestricted.

If the warranty is important to you, I'd email or phone Kymco USA to check on this. As far as I know Kymco does not sell any performance parts for our scooters in N. America. Doubtful that they'd warranty  anything that works to circumvent existing licensing restrictions, such as are imposed on a 50cc scooters in some states.

the jet and bushing are parts that they install on scooters in unrestricted states so it is a Kymco part and came unopened in the warranty and owners manual package. I just went past 200 on way home from work and dropped it off at dealer to do 200 mile maintenance on the Like and they said they would switch out parts for free while doing service and that it doesn't void warranty as they receive these parts with the scooters from manufacturer. Will pick it up tomorrow after work and let you know how it runs.

Well just got home and I have to say I am completely satisfied with the maintenance and derestricting done to the bike it handles great and brakes better and has gained 10mph on flat roads and gets about 45 or beter down hill I think this will help tremendously on my commute to work and just getting around in general.

It was the float
Are you going to tell us what was the problem with the float - or are going to keep it a secret?
