Title: People s200 starts then dies
Post by: hippiebrian on October 11, 2015, 04:39:47 PM: My People s200 is starting, then immediately dies. It has a service light blinking and the number and shows 14788 on the odometer although it has less than 10000 miles on it. I'm guessing that is some kind of service code, but I can't find it anywhere. When it dies, the speedometer does it's little dance like I just turned the key on, so I'm guessing it's losing all power for a second then gettin g it back.

This is driving me nuts. Does anyone know what this means? I have the battery on charge right now, could it just need another battery? So confused...

The service light (for lack of a better term) is still blinking and the scooter immediately dies right after I start it. Is this some kind of sabotage to get me to take the scooter in for service maybe? How can I redo this? Obviously disconnecting the battery does nothing. Help!

How about referencing a service manual (http://www.49ccscoot.com/manuals/Kymco_People_S_50-200_Service_Manual.pdf) and performing basic troubleshooting . . verify fuel and spark, then check valve clearance and cylinder compression.

I removed the bowl from the carb and cleaned what jets I could easily get to, and now it runs at high revs, but not on low revs or idle. It seems to be the low speed jet, I'm thinking. I don't want to get too far into the carb without a rebuild kit on hand, so it's time to find one. So far I have found every part on line, including a new full carb, but so far no rebuild kits. Anyone know where to get one?

Post by: JJJoseph on October 19, 2015, 06:46:11 AM: You likely don't need a rebuild kit. It's something simple like the O-ring on the intake manifold (there's 2). They get squashed with time and leak air and it won't idle. Replace with new O-rings for about 50 cents each.

There are no rebuild kits for the OEM carb and aftermarket carbs don't fit so you need to be very careful when working on the stock carb. My video of my grandvista 250 show what needs to be done.
