Title: Led spots-where to fit positive

I am expecting my XC 500 back after crank job any time soon now.

I want to connect up some led spots I imported while waiting for the repairs to be completed.

I want these spots to be on whenever I put on the lights, dim or bright. And off when I turn off the lights completely.

Do you have any suggestions on best location for the positive cable?

I plan to put one on each side of the front wheel struts low down.

Not really for light, but to change the light profile for oncoming cagers.

You can grab +12v off the light switch. The one that turns on the rear running light. Solid green is ground in these bikes so use any one of those.

What happened? why would it need a crankshaft?

Crankshaft not related to this led spot setup.
I was getting an oil light at idle after a 20 min highway ride. Fault found to be worn bearings, resulting in crank being replaced..
Seems it comes with conrod, crank, and all bearings.

Spots fitted now, must just connect them up to power.
I will upload a pic, as I think they add something to the look.

Here are pics of the led installation.

Looks good if I may say so myself.

I will definitely be seen with these on.

I connected them to the running lights which are legal here in South Africa.

A bit low,  I know, but I did not want to drill holes in the plastic.

Very nice. I love them.

I did something similar on my 4t scooter, and plan to do exactly the same on a Triumph bobber I am building.

Do they help much at night? Does charging system keep up with extra power drain do to light? :-*

Sissy,  I don't know how the charging system is handling it, but scoot starts fine with the addition, and I always start with lights off in any case.
Also,  I have high cca(240) Motobatt  installed. My thought is led,  so super light on power requirements. 

I only connected them this A. M., and have not driven in the dark yet.
I am not really wanting these spots for lighting the way forward (probably too low down for that)  but to change the light profile for oncoming cagers.

I will report back how they perform  at night,  some time soon.

By the way Sissy,  you cruise a lot,  what speed are you doing mostly, and do you ever go WOT?

This A. M. 07H00 while still dark,  I started the scoot 1st Turn of the key, and checked the led spots.
My driveway is filled with cars so I could not check distance allumination, but the corner where I park the scoot was like daylight! And that is with these spots being mounted low down.

Thursday evening I was on the road, and these led spots really light the way  ahead. I was getting flashes from oncoming traffic, so I had to adjust the led spots down.

65-70 or so. The bike will pull very strong at wot. It will go up in speed very fast until it hits the rev limiter.  :-*
