Do I really need to invest in a new variator for better performance? Or is just buying roller weights ok? I guess I'm asking is the stock variator so bad it needs to be replaced? Ignore all the other possible engine mods. Just talking variators.
Thanks

Very good question - I would also think some of the after-market parts out there would not even be up to the quality of a stock Kymco part.
Hope the experts ring in for you.

Aftermarket variator will hardly improve performance by itself. The "performance" variator increases the ability for the engine to Rev up easily. And your right, most cheapo ones are of lesser quality than oem kymco part. I don't ever recommend getting just a variator as a performance mod because you'll be disappointed.

Definitely. I changed the orig Like variator after 1 year (4000 km and after I felt it eats the roller weights alive) for a Malossi one. It is a whole new scooter...given you changed the clutch spring also! Much smoother accelaration (keeps the rpm steady) and in my case also higher top speed. All just by a new variator. Spring and weights were included in the malossi package :)

If the variator boss is restricted you should at least change that
