I just did an oil change and replaced air and oil filters. What's up with the tube coming off the air box? First time I drained it oil came out. The second time I drained it what looked like oil and smelled like gas came out.
-
That's the crankcase breather overflow / filter. Extra oil/gas and white road grime stuff end up in the. Totally normal. Smells bad sometimes too.
-
Thank you. The two times I checked the tube it was full. How often should I be checking it? Also I noticed the air box was oily behind the filter. I did my best to wipe it up.

I usually drain every oil change, never that full really.

Is it normal for some of the air box to be saturated in oil and whatever else that could have been?
-
if you have oil on the air filter, you are putting to much oil in the rear end gear box, sure makes a mess dont it, I did it too,.
-
This was the first rear gear oil change. It came factory like that. I found the oil in the box before i did anything. I later drained the gear oil and filled ot until it stopped draining out the check plug.

On my downtown 300i the oil refill is .21 lt. ( 7.1 ) ounce, check the manual for your scooter, up to the fill hole is over full, and thats go,s to the over flo, to the air filter
-
My repair manual says to fill to the hole. So does my Kymco dealer.
-
My manual say to fill to the hole also but i'm hearing that the manual is wrong and you should put only what is stamp on your gear box
-
So far, all Kymco models have a specific amount of oil for the transmission gearbox and filling to the fill hole is WAY too much. Regardless what any Kymco book or especially any dealer says.

Yep, I think you're safe to use what is indicated on your gear box -but some scooters do not have that marked there. Mine doesn't - so I use what is printed in the owner's manual.
I once asked KYMCO USA this question - "fill to edge of fill hole, or?" They replied to fill as per the owner's manual....which often is not near the edge of he fill hole.

The funny thing is that the owners manual say to do both......
