Title: What's the worst scoot for servicing?
Post by: Stig / Major Tom on February 09, 2015, 02:02:49 AM
In your experience - what scooter (brand & model) is the hardest to service?
Which Kymco is the hardest to service? (valve adjustment, etc.)
Was reading again today the Honda PCX posts - some entirely skip valve adjustments because they require taking the scooter apart - then the engine cases break and leak oil because the center stand is mounted in the case - and breaks out after normal use!
My LIKE200i seems a piece of cake to service.

IMO they all suck.
I'm an old HD guy and am used to walking up to a bike and wrenching on it without having to "unwrap it", lol. When I went to scooters I swore I would do nothing other than oil changes and leave the rest to the dealer for that very reason.

Any, and all Vespas.

The engine has to come out for valve adjustments.

Kymco's are like unwrapping an Xmas gift compared to them.

Honestly, anything Italian lol. The Vespas aren't bad, once you get the hang of swinging the engine to get the valves and plug. The odd ball ones are what kill me, Scarabeo all suck. Aprilia all suck. Derbi all suck. They make quality bikes, but don't think about making them easy to service at all.

They should all at least do this.

Be big, I think you are not representative of the vast majority of scooter owners.
Most of us own a scooter under the (perhaps faulty) assumption that we are saving money vs running a car. In other words we think we're being thrifty...so we also try to save $ by doing our own servicing.
You, on the other hand, have the ability to better finance this hobby, than do most of us.
No worries, we all love scootering!

Huh ?
What am I Rockefeller because I can afford to have service done ? Didn't know this was a socioeconomic thing. I won't apologize for my successes and don't run from my defeats.

I don't know what cactus you sat on this morning but let me say this. In my parts those that really need to save money by scooting don't own a new Forza. Or have a Like in the stable with it.

You want to be the common man do you, with what almost 7k in scoots in the garage?
Sorry your bit falls far short.

It's the same concept I applied to the ZX by glassing all the body panels into "units".
It gets real old, real fst, dealing with all the fragile fasteners, and separate puzzle pieces.

The same concept can be applied to all of our scooters but I guess only Big Mac, and Stig can afford to have it done for them.
The rest of us have to use zip ties, and bread flour glue.

Maybe I can afford it maybe I can't.  ;)
Stig can tell you if I can as he seems to be overly concerned about my financial situation. ::)

I'll loan you a few ducketts if you need to buy parts, bread, dog food , ect...

If I had money I'd lend you some of that instead.

Lol thanks my friend.
I'll be ok but from his earlier post it seems Stig lives close to the financial edge and may need your offer of assistance. Poor Everyman gotta get by with a new maxi-scoot and coffee out every morning. Must be hell living like that......

I watched a friend of mine tell an employee "I can't afford to lend you money for your electric bill, I just paid you on Friday, and it came out of my weekend money."

We got in his truck, drove to Panama City, and he promptly put a bag containing 180,000.00 on the sales manegers desk for a 24' Whaler Dauntless.

Maybe I get it but maybe I don't always approve. The only reason he had that kind of loot is because of the fella that works for him. Life's a bitch.

Just terminated a disturbing discussion with my wife where she got all ticked off for me asking questions which were only posed so I could figure out what she was "driving at". Guess I need to be more careful what I say to people 'cause some are really "touchy".......

Karl

PS: I think that unit-seat tilt is a really good idea. Really.

and I get it also but there are others that paid the employees bill, set up college funds, provided the thanksgiving turkey etc. fact is not all employers suck the blood from their workforce. I know that from experience.

No good reason why more scoots can't open like the Hoysung. It's a matter of a few bucks up front and countless hours spent latter.
