Hi Everyone,
First timer, so sorry if this is in the wrong spot or something!
I bought a 2011 Kymco Super 8 2 stroke 50cc a few months ago second hand, only had about 2000k's on it. It's been great. It didn't get ridden for a couple of weeks over xmas, and that seemed to drain the battery enough that it wouldn't push-button start, but was still fine with kick start, so no biggie.
It just went another week without being ridden, first time back on it this morning. It started fine with kick stand, but I noticed straight away that oil warning light didn't turn off. I only rode it about 500m and went to pull in at a petrol station to buy some oil. As I pulled up at lights the engine cut out, and I pushed it in to the petrol station. The oil looked a bit low, so I topped it up. However, now that the oil is full the oil light still looks like it is on all the time. The engine also died a couple of times on the way home when pulling up to lights, so I tried to keep the revs on a little bit to prevent it happening again.
Any idea if this is all related to the battery running low on charge? Could the light somehow be staying on just because of this, or could there be a more "mechanical" reason?

If your battery is dead the oil light will be tweaking out. Totally normal. Get a new battery, and also use good synthetic 2t oil, not that gas station crap.

Thanks for the quick reply, I thought it was probably something simple with the battery. Any recommendations on where to buy a replacement?
Regarding oil, something from Supercheap ok?

Consider Amsoil Dominator or interceptor oil if you have a NAPA near you.

That oil is the ONLY thing keeping your 2 stroke alive.
Have you attempted to adjust the idle mixture screw? Sitting with old fuel is not a good thing.
I'd start w/ 2 ounces of SeaFoam in a full tank, twice. Adjust the idle screw by turning it either direction 1/4 turn at a time, and note the rpm's. You want it to run at the best rpm the screw can give, and then back off i/8th to 1/4 turn to Slightly enrich it. The larger idle speed screw should be adjusted to get the rpm where they should be after adjusting the mix screw.
It might take a few attempts to get it right.
After the seafoam has run thru two tanks repeat that process.
Also... If your oil pump ran dry. (bad thing) you need to bleed it to make it pump again.
You will find a flat,ish phillips head screw on the left side of the pump. Twist the throttle wide open, and remove that screw. Oil will drip slowly out when it reaches the open port. Re set the screw, and you are done.
