Title: new pipe
Post by: mroc on December 29, 2014, 06:19:53 PM
Just installed a performance pipe that came with the bike when I bought it used. Last owner said it ran good.with it. Anyway installed it and now bike revs at 12000 + and only goes 65km/h. I am guessing I need to upjet but have no jets right now. Carb and air is stock with 92 jet. Would drilling a few holes in air box help. Any suggestions?

I'd save any definite answers to be from the guys that really know,  but what I would say is that your rollers are putting you above the rpms you need to be. Odd if you were just on a stock pipe...
What weight rollers are you using?

I put in 7 gram sliders when I did.pipe.

Was doing 80 km h with stock pipe. Bit really wanna use the performance pipe.

Hmm.  I run the stock pipe,  fully clipped,  with a few holes (not suggested,  mine came with them)  and just went up to a 95 jet.  I may need to go higher.  I'm running 9 gram rollers,  top speed average 42mph gps, past the 80 kmh on the speedo.  That's at about 7500 rpm.  What rpm did you're stock pipe hit?

Just a thought,  does the pipe hold pressure?  If it's cold,  started,  and hold your hand over the outlet it should die, or try to,  and let out a pressure when you remove your hand.
Don't attempt it hot,  even with a towel.  My dumb a** almost caught fire thinking the towel was resistant enough...

Weekday brand and model of pipe? Some are designed to work at 12k+. Done are designed for 70cc kit only. You HAVE to upjet to use that pipe, your bike will get damaged without more fuel, especially if your revving it to 12k. What other mods do you have?

I will try this. If it holds pressure then what? I think.it's a technigas trek r pipe but.it's a.guess no markings on pipe. It's about three weeks til my jets arrive. So I either go back to stock pipe or some other solution like perhaps air box mod with needle clip adjustment? I just got he bike a week ago from.inspect the only other mod is performance clutch and bell. I have ordered m4 jets I hope those are the right ones for stock carb. The sizes I got are 95,98,100,105,110,115. Also coming in parcel is roller tuning kit and contra springs three different stiffness. This is my forth super 9 I also have a bws r. I will post a picture of all the bikes soon.

Not trying to hijack the thread, guys,  but quick noob question

Will bolting on a performance pipe jump the rpms a drastic amount,  such as 8k-12k?
Title: Re: new pipe
Post by: BettinANDlosing on December 29, 2014, 07:26:14 PM
Like i said before, depends on how the pipe was designed. They are "tuned" for specific rpm so once you put the pipe on your engine will try is hardest to be in the powerband. With 7g weights in shocked it revs to 12k without stiff contra. You CANNOT make up for lean jetting with the needle, the needle hardly effects WOT, only the main jet does. And modding your airbox will only lean it out further. If your 50cc still the next is to aggressive for the stock cylinder. If your getting 80kph with the stock pipe you should be pretty stoked about that!

I am installing a.airsal 70cc on another one I guess use pipe for that one. I have a lower model technigas here also maybe I will install that one and see what happens. I like the sound.for.city driving make.me feel safer with all the cagers.

I see,  thanks.  Sorry for putting any possible misinformation!  Just been trolling the forum and thought I'd put my two cents in.
Good luck on the kit.  I'm planning on one soon.

I didn't read anything past here...

This just makes me laugh... Perhaps the "performance pipe" is a piece of crap, and the OEM pipe is the real performer here.
Also the 90 main jet is one that has been swapped out already. The oem jet is 78-80.

Plug Chops!!!

So here is the update. I upjetting stock carb to 98, added purple malosssi contra, and 9.5 g rollers. It's.ripping now 76km/h uphill and plus 80km on flats. I

That's more like it. Take one thing at a time, and dial it in. The 98 main is rather large... I assume you still have the pipe on there. What kind of rpm are you spinning w/ the 9.5 gr?
Title: Re: new pipe
Post by: mroc on January 08, 2015, 09:17:30 PM
Just in red 7800-8200 rpm
Title: Re: new pipe
Post by: zombie on January 08, 2015, 09:23:40 PM
At wot or slightly less?

IME you want to hit the red line just before WOT so you still have something left. Maybe that's just the way I like it tho...

My little ZX spins 14k rpm, and I consider the red line at 10.5 - 11 k rpm. after 12k there is no power to be made but it will hold that rpm for the better part of a mile w/ no sign of letting go.

My point is your bike can spin a lot higher than 9k w/ the stock crank. 10 - 12k is still very safe. (with Pre-Mix)

Good to know , gonna drop the rollers down to 8.5 and see where that sets it yah after riding today it does need a lil more rpm for more smooth accel, it has a dead spot around 40 clicks right now
Title: Re: new pipe
Post by: zombie on January 09, 2015, 03:00:40 AM
That's exactly what I mean. The red line rpm doesn't matter as long as the cruise rpm is within the powerband,

You want to be able to cruise the bike at what sounds good (never mind the tach), and still have some power left above that.
The pipe, and the cylinder (in the big picture) have to match. You'll learn this as you read more. No offense.

Cylinders are ported. these ports are specific sizes. The size, and placement effect the rpm that the cylinder likes to run.
The pipe is nothing more than a pump. This pump pushes air backwards into the cylinder. (sounds wrong eh!)
This pump forces un-burnt gasses backwards into the cylinder to be burned (again).

That's how a 2t works. It's NOT in one stroke of combustion. It's in two strokes that repeat over again. Reading more on 2t cylinders  http://iheartstella.com/resources/manuals/tuning/Graham-Bell-Two-Stroke-Performance-Tuning.pdf (http://iheartstella.com/resources/manuals/tuning/Graham-Bell-Two-Stroke-Performance-Tuning.pdf)
You will see what I mean.

The pipe creates a sound wave that pushes gasses back into the exhaust port to be mixed w/ the new vaporized fuel charge. since this is a MIX of hot gaeese, and raw (cool ) fuel it has an octane rating that can com-bust in a controlled manner. ie: no "ping".

I forget where this was going, and I don't want to look back...

Every PART of a 2t is linked to create a perfect balance. Putting a 9k rpm pipe on a 7k rpm cylinder does NOTHING but waste money. It many times makes LESS power than a stock pipe.
BUT you can take a 7k cylinder, and raise the ports, and widen the ports to make a 9K cylinder for free.

Now to be clear I HATE this guy (DIO SPEED DEMON) He's wrong as many times as right.
But to be sure... Follow Grams book, and learn the principals. If you really want more info on fine tuning ask me. Dio SP D. is wrong on a lot of things but I know better.
Porting, and pipes are like George, and Gracie or Ralph, and Alice.
They are no good without each other.

Happy to help...

I've had the new style zuma 50 and sold it years ago. I had an itch to get another 2t. I've loved the "prebug" forever and this little gem was for sale up around Seattle. 300 miles, garaged it's whole life. Last import year to USA. And these aren't really Yamahas, it's a French company MBK that used to be motobecane. Yamaha paid them to produce for the USA and slapped Yamaha stickers on it and named it the Zuma. This is literally the easiest bike to wheelie, the back wheel is directly below and there's almost no weight on the front. In a month or so that's why I wanted to borrow that pressure tester, I'm dropping some $$$ to build the internals. Polini 70 and full circle crank. Already got an mhr overrange dialed in and 19mm Dell' with the big intake and all. Still too gutless hence the winter build lol. I need to clear my lift and start ordering parts. One cool thing about the design of the vertical minarelli is the reed block is in the cylinder, not ideal for maximum rpm horsepower but built right they have massive torque at moderate rpm. I'm using stock exhaust on my 70cc build to keep a wide powerband, and hopefully I'll have a 60mph torque machine.

Just got this pipe in the mail for my pre bug. It is been by me and is half way there. Currently 19mm dell mk2 carb, stage 6 intake with vforce horizontal mod reed cage, athena 70 cc aluminum kit and tuned out cvt. Last summer I was running on highways doing 115km/h. It was a blast passing cars on such a small frame scooter.

Cool, I've heard people say Vancouver is Portland's sister city. I like the Euro front light setup you got. I regret not going with the stage 6 intake setup, i ended up getting the Polini big reed cage with two reeds. The design of the stage 6 looks better tho.

Just for the record, as a native here, i wish more people hated Portland. There's a sh** ton of people moving here and it SUCKS!!!!! Everyone moves here cus its soooo "cool". And i bet that's why you hate Portland, maybe idk. These people come here to be so hip.... Movies here, tv shows here, buncha bullsh**. The city itself is awesome, but there's lots of people trying way to hard to be cool LOL. Everyone drives 30mph regardless of speed limit so it makes for fun hooligan scooter riding tho

That's EXACTLY why! It's not the geography (which is beautiful) or the weather (which is passable) or the local Govt (which is tolerable).

It's all the Damn Hippies!!!!!!! F'n Bastards should be rotting on my fathers doorstep! (Satan)

I Love Yami's. I still would love to rock an Aerox, and my favorite bike as a kid was a Yami 175 something or another. The first street bike I had was a 250 twin 2 t. Rd 250 I think... It beat the balls off a Triumph in Ed's Bay Pub's parking lot on my 16th birthday.

Got my ass kicked by the Triumph guy later that night but I still beat his rat ass bike.

Anyway......... I'm just jealous. You live closer to all the seed than I do. Aii we get here is pollen, and I'm not into that.

Lol yeah, i just ignore the bullsh** here. It's not even hippies, they just go about their business. The hipsters and yuppies' are terrible. I've straight up had drunk fixie riders spit on me for trying to pass when they were in the middle of a two way neighborhood road. Guess what they yelled? "Bike lane asshole!" Hahaha it took everything to not open my door and level that guy. And his friend generically enough was on a high bike, if you know what that is. (two frames welded together for extra cool). Man i could go onnnnnn!!! Really tho lots of people here are really cool, nice and normal. The govmt here is actually kinda f*&$#@ up, it's hilarious how they manage money. They are now possibly going hike up income tax (already one of the highest in the country) because they don't have enough money to fix potholes. Well you might say this is a normal problem for a city, but they are building miles of new light rail and streetcar tracks including a multi hundred million dollar bridge that, guess what... ONLY IS FOR BIKES AND PEDESTRIANS!!!!!! haha But hey, the bridge looks pretty sweet and I might be able to late night scooter it summertime.

I get ya! I gave up on big cities years ago. I still miss the good points like decent food but other than that... No brainer.

The first High bike I saw was 44 years ago in DC. I've never seen one since. I see what you mean by the type of clowns just from that alone!

Good luck w/ that!!!

I really like way those Yamaha CW50's look.  I found one in OK for $800 that was in really good shape, but no title.  They were original owners, just rode it on the property, so didn't need to get it titled.  In TX if you buy a scooter without title and want it street legal will cost approx $400, best I can tell.  There are ways around this, but I haven't figured it out without committing outright fraud lol's.

I am locked into Kymco now anyway.  I am finding there are many parts interchangeable between People 50 and Super 9 which is big plus for me.  Yamaha is more $'s just for name only, best I can tell Kymco is as good or better for less $'s.  So, probably no Yamaha in my future.  In kart racing Yamaha KT100 engine is very popular, but I never had one.  Was know as Mr Sticky by detractors like me, cause it would stick piston in cylinder so often.  Sorry to bore with kart stuff, but I did so long it's all I know.  Cheers

Yeah the Air Cooled Super 9 is the exact same motor as the People 50, and all the other air cooled 2t Kymco engines except the ZX-50 which is a clone of the Honda "dio" (Elite) engine. every last bit off the engine will interchange. The only difference being the People case is longer to accommodate the 16" wheel. Go Karts and boring shouldn't go in the same sentence!!! Shifter carts are bad frikin' ass!!!! We go to this place called SyKart, they aren't shifter karts, but once you qualify you can use the 10hp carts which are about as fast as the tight indoor course can handle. I got pushed into a pole once going prolly 35 to dead stop instantly, just about broke my neck...... Good times!

My bud in Long Island had some sort of cart. Fuel injected, and lap top tuneable. He claimed it has done over 120mph.

I couldn't imagine...
