Need a new carb. Old one shot. Anyone know where to purchase a new one without paying dealer's high prices?

What do you mean "shot"? I've never seen a carb be bad without human error to mess it up. The carb in the x 500 is almost $300 complete, I've looked into swapping it into my bet and win. All the parts are replaceable down to the last screw.
