Title: What do y'all think of my air filter

Here's my air filter

err, the pic is huge, here's a link

It's not the best pic, but gives you an idea. This is after about 4000 miles of Central Texas summer driving. I'm thinking that I'll need to stock up on some new air filters. Problem is though, I can't find anybody that has any inventory. The dealer says it'll take over a month to get one, and they're $40. However, having lived in Taiwan before I found the Taiwanese version of eBay has OEM air filters for about $8 usd. You can see the website here:

I'm trying to contact the guy to set up a bulk purchase. I'll let you guys know how it goes. In the meantime, what do y'all think of this air filter. I think it is affecting performance and I'd like to see the effect a new filter would have.

Brake cleaner. Maybe not text book but I don't have the money for the filter. Still using the original at 41k miles. If you are having a slight stumble around 40 mph it's not the air filter. Changing to lighter sliders helped the stumble.

Even better than brake cleaner. Get a generic slip in k&n for a car, cut out your crappy paper filter and epoxy and silicone in the k&n filter. Better flow and you can clean it for the life of the bike. Works really well.

I got mine from Kymcopartsmonster.com. It cost $37 + change, but I had it in 3 or 4 days.

B&L, I think you have a great idea! Got some specifics on this K&N generic?

Petrarch, count me in for at least one if you can get 'em! Where are you located (shoulda been the first question) in general terms?

Karl

Hey thanks for the replies everybody. I'm in Austin, Texas, are you in these parts? We have a pretty good scooter club here and there's another guy with a people 300 in it. Getting these parts from Taiwan is gonna be a hassle. I'm gonna try to get a stack of them, but it might take awhile. If I can get some I'll post on this forum.

Just go to O'Reilly they usually stock a selection of K&N slip in filters, they are large flat ones for cars and you should hehe enough material to make two or so filters. Shot $50 but it lasts the life of the bike.

Don't do that K&N nonsense! Stick with OEM parts period. Bite the bullet & score it from Mr. Mike's link. Why mess with it for a mere $40.00? BTW...I just called my local Kymco dealer for you (Cycles 128 in Beverly, MA.) He has a real-time online access to Kymco's part warehouse in Spartanbrg, South Carolina & they have over 50 in stock right now. Just an FYI.

You don't like better flow and never having to buy another filter? Your loss....

I would say stick to original Kymco  as well. Just in case there is a conflict regarding warranty.

I hope you weren't letting the filter get that bad on purpose.

I work on cars and I am realky suprised at how many people spend tens of thousands of dollars on a nice ride and then skimp out on a part that is tens of dollars

I can get the genuine kymco filter for $30 each from Taiwan. They usually arrives in 10 days. I normally purchase a lot of parts in one time to save on shipping.

So you are tellin' me that if your scoot goes into a kymco dealership for a service or a problem, and they see some sort of non - kymco aftermarket part which directly has something to do with the engine, they wouldn't raise an eyebrow?? I would think that they will have a problem with that!!

Aftermarket air filter won't cause any issues with Warranty. Unless it was done wrong, it wont cause any problems.
