Hi all
today after starting the scooter i let it sit and idle for a while , maybe about 10 minutes while i pottered around doing other things
when i got back to the scoot i gave a bit of a rev and started a pre ride saftey check (like checking the brake lights ,indicators ,headlight ,brakes actually working)
when i squeezed on the brake lever i heard a terrible sound then tried it again to make sure
i turned off the scoot with the key then turned the key back on , then squeezed the brake lever and the scoot started ! without pressing the start button
i tried this again and it didnt reoccur , this time no bad sound while braking
i took it for a short ride around the block , stopped halfway and restarted , it started with just the brake lever again (both levers do this)
obviously theres a short or a bad switch somwhere and given that it happens intermittantly im hoping that this is my gremlin
(if youv read any of my other recent posts youll see iv been having a hard time starting)
also i read a few posts about looking for a stronger starter motor , , did anyone find the part no. for that ?or will any starter motor that will suit kymco 500ri work ?
thankyou everyone

I would be looking for a sticking start button. I believe this would be the logical place to start. This could be confirmed with a multimeter. If this is the case it could be a compressed contact or a lazy spring.

Very good post Read I'm not easy to understand it.
Actually the matter very much. There are benefits to living it.

First of all, Use the other brake lever and see what happens. My switch wouldn't engage no matter how hard I squeezed. We now have a new Kymco Scooter shop in town. The cable/switch cost was $15+. He suggested oiling it. I did and it worked. It's a small micro switch. Look carefully in the Lever area.

You have a stuck starter button. OR a broken return spring inside the switch.
I would get a new assembly for 20 bucks rather than mess with it.
