Title: Stopped Starting!!! help!
Post by: mococheng on June 24, 2014, 04:21:12 PM
I have a People 50 2T that all of a sudden stopped starting after I rode it 3 times this summer!
What I've done:
Cleaned the carb, replaced the spark, charged the battery

This is what I think I know:
Tested no spark with spark plug attached to the wire and grounded on the frame.

I've read that the spark issue comes down to CDI, stator, or ignition coil.

How can I trace this down?

I've never had a coil go bad but DOZENS of stators, and CDI's. I would simply order a ew stator, and CDI. Replace them both, and be doen w/ it.

Pull off the plastics, and check ALL the wire connections. Sometimes a connection just shakes loose.

There is a manual for your bike in the Kymco Links thread on the second page. (it's in the General section of the home page.

Perhaps a bit of a long shot but one never know.
Mine did the same thing when it had done about 2000 miles. It was the ht lead that was broken on the inside (fatigue) just where it enters the spark plug cap. I cut the ht lead one inch and threaded the cap back on and it has been working since then and it now has 10000 miles on the clock.

I've had the same thing happen.

Forgot about the kill switch too. Maybe?

Don't totally rule out the coil, not as common as the cdi but it happens. Also I've seen kill switches stay "killed" on bikes that don't get much use.
