Hey everyone, I'm new here (well, apparently I signed up for an account a while ago and forgot about it...lol), and am purchasing a used Xciting 250 next week. It's an '07. Another dealership here in Vermont had an '09 (which I would have preferred since it's fuel injected), however they wanted over $4,000 for it because "It's brand new". I'm still trying to figure out how a bike that is five years old (even if it has zero miles on it) is 'brand new'. I actually stumbled across the Xciting by accident. One dealer in the state had a Grand Vista for sale (a bike I have always loved the look of, and I'll be honest, the electronic folding mirrors get me every time), however when I called them this morning they had already sold it :'( but they referred me to this other dealer, in another part of the state that had this bike (the Xciting). After doing some research on it (both motorcycle review sites and this forum) I decided to get it. I think the two things that have the most appeal for me are the tire size (since most of my riding will be done on state highways and back roads, and the roads here in Vermont are not the best, so the bigger tires will be a plus) and it's weight. The weight I like because it seems like a heaver bike will handle buffeting on the interstate better.
Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself, and I look forward many happy Kymco rides.

I not so Keen on 250cc's on the highway myself but... For the rest of your riding it should be a blast.
I ride on the flat lands of Florida, and I truly do miss the mountains.
I'm sure you're gonna enjoy the bike up there.

I'm not too worried about Highway (the speed limit here in Vermont is 55 on state highway), and there isn't going to be much interstate riding (65 here in Vermont). However I do plan on getting that 300cc bbk for the bike. And, I will probably be driving you guys crazy with questions since this is my first carbureted bike (all my others are fuel injected). For instance, if I put the 300cc bbk on it, will I have to adjust the carb, what about gearing...etc.
Even though this is a slower bike than my other 250 (a Hyosung MS3 250 that has managed to get my fat ass up to 87 gps, not be in the red and still have some throttle) I know it's a step up in quality.

You will need to swap out your main jet when you upgrade to the BBK. You MAY even need to up the idle jet.
I just responded to a post by a fell here that has some over heat issues w/ his 300cc kit. I'd try to find that thread, and follow along how he makes out. It seems to be a question of overheating w/ his bike, and perhaps a gasket mod to fix it up... I'll try to link it here if I find it before you do....
Highway/interstate... I always assume Hwy is the Interstate. 55MPH is a good cruise for your bike. 70+ is a torture test.

Little update.
I'm not going to be able to pick the bike up until Saturday or Monday. I have to say that I'm impressed with this dealership. Before they are letting a used bike out of their shop they are changing all fluids (including gas), cleaning and adjusting the carb, changing all filters, and I got a call this morning that they are getting new tires for it and don't want me to have it until they get the new tires on it. Such a welcome experience, especially after my last used bike purchase where I'm still finding things wrong that they should have taken care of before selling it to me.

A good dealer can easily become a good friend. It's nice to hear the guy is taking care of a second hand scoot for you. Most of them forget your face the second the bike is out the door.

Dang arcanum! Your dealer needs to give customer care lessons to all the dealers that some of the rest of us have had to put up with in other parts of the country!
Wecome to the Forum, and don't worry about asking lots of questions. If you don't ask, you miss out on the awesome knowledge that the scooter veterans have to pass on.
I've learned more from asking dumb questions than I ever could with educated guesses! ;)

Congrats on the new-to-you scoot, Arcanum. I've had my XC 250 now for 3 years and it still puts a smile on my face everytime I ride it. It will do fine on the back roads and highways, but Zombie is right about the Interstate...the bike struggles at 70 mph. Anything less and it rides solid and purrs. So far no issues with my bike which I bought as "new" in 2012 despite it being an '09. Sounds like the dealer is taking good care of you. Enjoy the bike!

A little update, I was supposed to get it the other day, but they wanted to put new tires on it for me as the rear tire was starting to cup, so they ordered a new front and rear and got them on today. The mechanic took it for a test ride and I got a call from the dealer letting me know that I couldn't have it yet as the speedo was not working and they won't let it out like that. While I'm itching to get going on it, you have to appreciate this level of service. My only problem with this dealer is they are 106 miles from where I live (so it's going to be a fun first ride on it), so they really aren't feasible to use for the small stuff. But, most of the small stuff I can do myself anyway, and if there is anything major I can always trailer it and take it there (I would rather do that than deal with the idiots at the bike shop in the town I live in).
Oh, and I ordered a helmet cam and will have that Monday. I've been meaning to order one since last year, but haven't had to money until now. So, hopefully I can get some vid's up of the back roads of Vermont...hell, even our interstates are scenic.

VT is beautiful. Living in the south I do get home sick from time to time. Long Island was always home for me but damn near every other weekend was spent in Vermont for skiing Maine for dinners or Mass for Salem/Boston fun.

I don't know...being from Michigan ( and spending my last years there in the U.P ) and , now, being in Maine...I think both areas are great for scooting ( and fishing...I keep a packable LL Bean spin/fly combo under my scooter seat ) .

Michigan is gorgeous. I lived in Ohio (Columbus) for ten years, but I drove truck so I spent a lot of time in Michigan. Too many people think of only Detroit when they think of Michigan, they don't realize how beautiful the state is, especially Northern and Western. Once you go west of Ann Arbor (I've spent a lot of time at that TA truck stop there) it is beautiful and great for riding.
I'm going to be in Maine next month for Ski's Shrimp Run, a rally by Richmond ME. All scoots (regardless of size or make) are welcome...it's going to be on July 26th (I reserved a campsite for the whole weekend, Friday through Sunday...lol).

It's kinda strange how very different all the places in the US really are. It's easy to generalize because most of us can't quite grasp the geographical, and cultural differences.
Carrabelle is practically torn from the pages of Mayberry RFD. 40 miles north on the other side of Apalachicola National Forest is Telogia. That place is straight out of Deliverance. My wifes GrandFather is her Father. No joke. (she's in a nut farm or prison somewhere so save the flowers)

Born in Muskegon (Pere Marquette River area-Prime Trout River.Known worldwide) On shore of Lake Michigan...Lived everywhere from Kalamazoo to E.Lansing to Marquette ( Upper Peninsula ) . We like people to not know about Marquette/Presque Isle area as we want to keep it unspoiled. Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is a treasure to behold ( much less kayak/hike) .

What 300cc kit are you thinking of going with, MRP or polini? I have the MRP kit and it really puts out a lot of power, but like zombie mentioned I have cooling problems. I have the head at the machine shop and I'll keep you guys posted if getting the head decked fixed it. I've never heard of this before with the mrp kit so it may well be my bike not the kit. I would suggest getting the Naraku cam for the 250cc motor even before you get the kit, better bang for the buck and easy to install too. I like the x250, solid bike, really stable at high speed because it's practically the same chassis designed for 500cc.

I had no idea that is your bike that is over heating. I never read who is doing what until it comes down to the basement (50cc).
I've had lots of overheat sh** over the years, and will be more than happy to keep throwing ideas till something sticks.
I THINK it is an issue of the cooling system being designed as minimalistickly (That' a word?) as possible. Marginal may be better...
There are some outboard engines that do not accept modifications due to the cooling system being barely adequate from the jump.
However I do believe any issue can be fixed. That's what Modding is all about

I've never over heated per say, but its pumping air into the cooling system. I bleed it, run it, and loads of air come back in. Laser option on this one it to take it to the machine shop. Will knew in a week of that fixed it, plus having him do a nice port and polish on the exhaust port haha.

Got ya. The only thing that can inject air is the piston/cylinder. Generally speaking that will only happen for a short while until the pressure builds in the cooling system, and then it will reverse spewing coolant vapor out the pipe.

Yeah the weirdest thing is I have zero coolant leaks, and it didn't seem like my plug chops ever indicated burning coolant. Just constantly pumped air into the cooling system. Also I can burp the coolant system cap it and idle until the sun goes down, but it will only add air after actually riding for a while, the harder I ride the faster air is pumped into cooling system. If repairing the head won't fix it I'm stumped lol. The PO took horrible care of it, I got it for $100 totally beat down, bone dry on oil. So the chances of the head being warped are pretty high. I want a big valve head but can't find one anywhere.

It's alot of work but you can buy Titanium bar stock, cut new seats, and use what ever valves you want. I have a head I cut for a customer that we used valves from a Briggs Lane mower.
It cost just under 100.00 for the bar stock, and machine work. This was all in a random POS China scoot but it wound up faster than my 100cc qmb.

I have perhaps 5 lbs of assorted smoked peppers from the garden. I use them on everything. My favorite is Peanut Butter toast w/ onion, and smoked peppers.
I know it sounds gross but it actually chemically changes as you chew it into a Coffee flavor. If you get bored try it. GOOOOODDDDD STUUUUUUFFFFF

Just got back from Rutland where I took delivery of my new (to me) 2007 Kymco Xciting 250.

The ride back was around 112 miles, and I have to say that I am VERY impressed with this bike. While my Hyosung is quicker, and faster, the Kymco is a LOT more comfortable, solid and had no problems on the interstate.
While the bike is certainly solid, handles great (I love the weight of it, helps with stability), I am going to have to get a bigger windshield. Also, I knew it was a taller seat, but wow, I have to tip toe this thing while stopped. Also, I'm having a problem with the left side mirror, it's loose and keeps drooping down. Going to look at that tomorrow, I'm sure it's just a matter of tightening something up.
I cannot say enough about the dealership where I got it (Central Vermont Motorcycles). They changed ALL fluids in the thing (including gas), changed all filters, cleaned and adjusted the carb, put on brand new Michelin City Grip tires (front and back), put in a brand new battery, and even washed the thing before they turned it over. For a used bike, that is the best service I have EVER received from any dealership (both car and bike). Oh, and I thought the bike was grey, but it is some kind of black (it has flecks in it) which is cool. AND, they installed a GIVI trunk mount on it for a Monokey box. All at the original price they quoted me which was below KBB.

Damn that's some good service!!!! Two things, they do make a touring seat for the Xciting which is expensive but super deluxe. Also, order the 300cc kit!!!!!! It adds a ton of freeway cruising power. I have two friends that have people 250 & s250 and I kill them on the freeway.

I was actually thinking about the 300cc kit, I've noticed that there are a couple of them, which one do you suggest, and does anything else need to be changed/added when installing the 300cc kit?

I have the MRP kit, the cheapest option of them but it is a 78mm clone of the polini kit I think. Cast quality is good and the cylinder is plated nicely. You don't HAVE to do anything else other than slight jetting, but I would highly recommend getting the Naraku cam with the kit to the most out of it. I can get a solid GPS 85-90mph top speed but the biggest difference is acceleration, my 0-60 is quick and a rolling start from 40-80 can whoop traffic. Before you do any of that, get a set of 22-23g Dr. Pulley sliders and I would recommend getting the yellow torque spring from BPNW:

You will need both of those to utilize the power of the 300cc. Other than that the kit is a direct bolt in, no case grinding or anything. Valve adjustments are more frequent if you drive it hard with the kit, I do mine about every 1000-1500km. All n all a very nice product, the MRP kit is way cheaper than the others out there, I'm not sure if it will make a difference. Another guy on here, Trancebear, had a B&W with the kit and he blew his at 5000km, but I read he said something about "loosing oil pressure" which in that case is not the fault of the kit. Have a reputable shop do the install, and drive it easy for the first 500km and you will be really really happy with the 300cc.

No disrespect B&L... Go to SPI Arcanum, and get the Polini for less cost, and a much better quality cylinder. The dealer pricing fixes that.
Plated cylinders SUCK! Always have, and always will. You can not chamfer them so wear is extensive/excessive. Even the pistons suck in those kits.
I have owned 6-7 that I bought or they came on bikes I bought. Every one of them chipped/broke piston skirts from distortion or just plain had lousey compression in 2-300 hours of riding.
Like I said B&L... No diss intended. I see price was your goal.

Oh for sure, I wouldn't buy the polini kit. I got the MRP kit at dealer cost for $150 and LOVE it to death. Withe the polini kit being like what $400? F that hahaha. And I'm not up to snuff on the 2t jugs, so I can't speak for those. I have 5000km and counting on this MRP cylinder, and when I took the head off the bore was still shiny and fresh. I have VASTLY more experience with 4t stuff.

The Polini would be about the same price w/ SPI on our side. Maybe 30-40 more...

Plan change... can't do rally this year. My Dad is building a new house and we will be helping him move.
