Title: action cams
Post by: boo on June 16, 2014, 09:55:46 PM
Well, like many others, I had to try one too.
Recently purchased a Mobious micro action cam. 1080p 30 fps
Tried it out yesterday. Had it mounted on the left grip of my GTI300.
Seem to do pretty good. I plan to rig a helmet mount later.
Getting a little bounce mounted to the bar but wasn't too bad.
Below is my first, feeble attempt at a short vid. Photobucket will only accept 500 mb and under.
Vid looked good played full screen on Windows Media Player. Uploaded to PhotoBucket and it messed it up. Don't know why.
If anyone knows why Photobucket degraded the movie, please advise me.
Also, when I add a link to the vid, it adds two vids. Should be one.

Update: Switched to YouTube vid.

Thanks tortoise.
I uploaded to YouTube. A big improvement but, i'll have to say I am disappointed. The raw footage on my computer played on Windows Media player looks considerably better.
I guess any time an image or video is transferred, it degrades some.
Anyway thanks for the suggestion. It did improve the vid.

zombie, what do you mean when you say private. Are you referring to the PhotoBucket vid, or the YouTube vid?.
I don't know what i'm doing. Now it is a hit and miss process for me.
Any tips on making and uploading vids will be appreciated.

The cam is very stable.
Was it in the HD mode?

The camera can be set to 720p @ 60 fps, or 1080p @ 30 fps.
I have it set to 1080p @ 30 fps. I guess that is HD.
Some video editing programs have an anti - shake option when making a video. I have not tried that yet. Still learning.

Not bad, I like the music in the first one. If I had one I would probably set it to 720 HD mode, I use 1080 and it is a big file that took me some time to upload.

Thanks.
As time goes along, I will try 720p. This thing is new to me and i'm still learning.
You are right. The 1080p vids take a long time to upload.
I have a bunch of royalty free midi files I convert to mp3. Have much better music but, found out quick that I have to be selective about my music selection.
YouTube rejected my second vid because of music copyright infringement. This limits my choices.
I will try 720p soon and compare.

Update: Tried 720p. Picture quality not as good as 1080p. Stands to reason.

This guy in the UK has some pretty good in depth reviews on cameras and action cams (especially the less expensive ones) He also rides a scooter. Look him up on youtube too.

Yeah, that guy has great vids and reviews.  His average action camera review is around 20 minutes, so you shouldn't have any questions after watching it.

Actually watching his vids kind of lead me to my purchase of a Contour plus 2.

I've done one test vid with it, planning on doing more.

I'm not sure how to actually post the video on here so it shows in my post, so here is a link.

You sound like one of those old shaky old people. I laughed my arse off.

I like you style Bro. Thanks for defending our choice.

Yeah, the shaky old man voice was because of that road.  It is nothing but pot holes and ruts.  My next vids will be on smoother roads.  I took that road because that happened to be a day when there was construction blocking most of the other major roads here in town.

I figured that but I still laughed. Next time PLEASE do it with Sulfur Hex

Neil Patrick Harris and Kelly Ripa inhale sulfur hexafluoride (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kvr9LFzOo50#)

LOL, yup.  When I was going to college and working with lasers we used to mess with that stuff all the time.

No, but that was hilarious...I was laughing my ass off.

We basically did the "I am your father" thing, and then sang badly...lol

Ahh, college, good times.

I went to get the books, and take the tests. I remember maybe a dozen days in class.
I was too busy working out/snow skiing, and being the resident "safe guy" for a group of 20-30 lesbians.
Those were the days alright.
