Hi, I'm new to the forum and just bough a used 2005 Venox in very nice condition. I've noticed though that a short 15 - 20 minute ride causes the temp light come on and I started smelling a slight burning smell so shut her off. When I looked in the radiator there is no fluid, but the antifreeze reservoir is just below the full line. I took the Thermo sensor off the back of the radiator and put it in some boiling water and with a multi meter I was able to see if switch on as it heated up (heard it click to). I ran the bike idle at my house for 20 min, light comes on but fan never starts up. Any ideas?

Run 12v direct to the fan, and see if the motor is good.

If there is no fluid in the radiator, then I would think that you need to add some.
But checking that the fan works is important also.

If there is no coolant in the radiator the switch thinks the bike is cold. Drain all the coolant and pick up some Belray motochill coolant. Top off and let the air burp out then cap the radiator.

i agree to all the above! new coolant and check the fan is working by connecting up to 12v battery.
Oil, oil filter and air filter when you get the extra time and change them as well. since you said you know how to check the thermostat means you have some know how.
the possibility that the radiator system is bad is near to zero. the fan 1st or light 1st has caused some discussion before, personally i think the fan should kick in 1st then the light if the radiator system can not compensate.

Thanks for all of the tips! I changed the oil and oil filter last night and put a new stator cover gasket it on it (had a small leak) - that's all good now. I'm going to try the tips you provided this weekend. Thanks again!

Just one other tip, if you can't find the Belray coolant anywhere go to your local Honda dealer and get the Honda coolant in the blue bottle. It's an glycol based coolant formulated to be safe for aluminum and mechanical seals bikes have. Good luck.

I recommend OAT or HOAT coolants.... ;)
