Title: Do I need this on my SCOOTER😉?
Post by: The moped learner on May 14, 2014, 12:12:18 AM
I notice that a 80cc big bore kit doesn't have a egr valve on the cylinder so do i not need it?(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/14/y2anupy5.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/14/jy4apu8u.jpg)

No it is not needed. Take off the stainless pipe, and sandwich a piece of soda can to block off the port on the cylinder head. Then use the rubber hose that went to the egr, and mount it on top of the valve cover as a breather.

OR you can re-use your cylinder head, and keep it all as is. The bore kits work better with the OEM small valve/small combustion chamber anyway.

Yesterday when i was riding it with my friend on the back, i left the tube open to breath it was driving fine then it died but it made a weird grinding noise as it slowed down and the valve cover was hotter than normal but the stainless pipe was way to hot but it started after a bit and i ran it a bit then it did it again, has that ever happened you?

I find my scoot runs better with it on.it helps to push air threw the gas tank, then forces gas to the carb.

You might have soft seized the piston. Pull the head, and inspect. DO NOT ride it with that system open. You have to block off where the reed was or do what I said in the first response. Swap heads

Soft seized the piston whats that mean never herd that before

Run it lean/hot enough to melt some aluminum from the piston over the rings, and onto the sides of the cylinder.

How long has the kit been on the bike?

You are going to give me a stroke. Start over.

Pull off the cylinder head kit, and inspect everything. The rings should all move free just like when you bought the kit. Look at the piston. this page will help. http://www.smellofdeath.com/lloydy/piston_diag_guide.htm (http://www.smellofdeath.com/lloydy/piston_diag_guide.htm)

If everything is good then put it back together.

The EGR pieces you took off/on/whatever will not affect anything as far as how the bike runs. If you have broken or missing parts you simply have to block it off AT THE CYLINDER HEAD or OUTLET side of the stainless pipe. String, and bent rubber hoses don't work. Use a piece of a soda can. Just cut it to fit with a pair of scissors.

Answer these questions but don't ask or say anything else... How long ago did you install the 80cc kit?
Did you change the jets in the Carb? How long did you ride with the broken ERG system? Which piston in the chart looks most like yours?

I didnt install the 80cc kit yet, yes i changed the jet I'm running a 85 to 90 jet, i didn't ride the scooter long at all with the egr system broke because i notice burnt fumes and i looked it all over and found the broken egr system, and the  piston it looks like is well i don't know yet because i don't want to mess anything up taking it apart

It's burning oil so my oil ring must be ruined a bit but it runs its like it has a little more power odd yes but true. It starts up fine but i noticed a couple of weeks ago it was blowing smoke out the valve cover breather

Yes i ordered the kit yesterday

Post when you get it.
You need a 1/8th" drill bit / 100 grit/220 grit/400 grit sand paper, or anything to smooth the piston dome. That's really key to consistency. You have to drill oilers in the piston if it doesn't  have them. Get sh** for an oil change

Well zombie what you think?
Title: Re: Do I need this on my SCOOTER😉?
Post by: zombie on May 20, 2014, 02:44:55 AM
FIRST thing I would do is remove the stator/flywheel, and split open that side case. It's easy.
Reason is the oil pump is inside there.

It LOOKS like the exhaust side was getting very hot. I think that was partly the EGT system being open but it may also be a bad/worn out oil pump.

You cant re-use what you have so you have to get a complete gasket set, and an oil pump.

Don't cheap out, and skip the oil pump. That may be your whole problem. If the oil is not pumping the engine is gonna burn.

All done the kit is on i need to upgrade my jet a bit because it runs a little hot and it stalls out at 7600 rpm at times

Post by: zombie on May 20, 2014, 10:09:28 PM
You already F'd it up.  You need at least 100 miles at less than 1/2 throttle to seat the rings, and wear in the bore.

I would enrich the Idle circuit to compensate for the main (which you will not be needing) change the oil (again), and give it the 100 miles before beating it.

Idle circuit? You mean Idle jet
Title: Re: Do I need this on my SCOOTER😉?
Post by: zombie on May 20, 2014, 10:59:57 PM
Yes. Adjust the Idle mix screw to enrich the low end rpm. This will help cool the cylinder until you get a proper main jet.

How I do that all i have for a sort of screw is a weird shaped knob

Idle mixture adjustment (air or fuel screw adjustment) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxpQjDQzX7g#ws)

You do have a fuel mix screw. It's near the intake manifold.
