2012 kymco super 8 50cc stock exhaust. I've noticed twice in a weeks time that the first thing cops look at when they see me coming is my exhaust. it's currently a stock exhaust but Ive been planning to upgrade to a performance exhaust with an expansion chamber, but now I'm not so sure that might be a good idea. I live in the NY area, are cops in this area known to be any more strict?

NY Cops!!!!! Haven't you heard of the Blue Taxi? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Give them five bucks, and a bag of joints. They will LOVE you. Tell em' Zombie says yo!

Are you sure your not stashing weed in your exhaust and its burning while your driving. Do you have a van full of hippies and a peace sign on it following you around ?
-
no weed here guys.
Today i noticed another screw was missing, maybe thats what been drawing their attention. lol
you guys weren't kidding when you said to go around the bike and make sure I tighten everything. this is the 2nd screw that has fallen out. :\

Spend a few cents on some lock washers. Should help with those heat shield bolts.

Thanks for providing that experience, Im just at 2000 and I'll make to check what screws and bolts I can reach.
On the serious side, does your exhaust sound loud and have talked to you about your bike ?

thanks bro, do you know what size I should get?

Just take the bolt to the hardware store and find the ones that have the right size hole. Pretty simple, and a really cheap fix!

its not loud, no one has stopped me yet, it seems they are just on the look out for modded scoots. maybe getting the lower profile traffic exhaust might be a better idea. I don't know. ???
-
I think it's just the way the super8 exhaust is designed. I've had several people ask if the exhaust on my 150 is aftermarket. They seem surprised that it's stock, until they notice the tiny pipe coming out the back.

You can buy scented additives for fuel in bikes. One is cannabis scent. I think Zombie designed it . :o
-
No. But I will be buying every ounce of it I can find!
-
since someone mentioned the tendency of the bolts of the exhaust shield coming loose, I've been checking them every day. I made sure not to over tighten any of them but this one just turns in endlessly without any tightness. will the lock washers help in this case?
this is the bolt that does not tighten.
-
If it won't tighten, then you may want to check to see if it got stripped out somehow. If the threads are stripped, then the lock washer won't help a bit. It will need drilled out, and new threads cut for a different bolt.
If you're lucky, the threads on the bolt itself could be stripped. If so, you just need a new bolt, and run a thread tap through the hole to clean it up.
-
thanks for your help.
I dont understand how it could have been stripped? I just got it, it only has 400miles on it, as far as I know, that bolt has only been touched once when the bike was put together.

Dont forget these things are made in China and Taiwan, not the best quality. Any possibility you can get a size up stainless steel sheet metal screw and use that to re-thread it ?
I can see now the fuss over exhausts. My state has a 2 HP limit; with the bike already at 1.9 HP, a performance exhaust would then put it over 2 HP make it illegal and make my insurance null and void unless I notify them; which inturn would trigger me having to get a motorcycle license.

If you got it from a dealer, I would take it to them and ask if they will fix it. If it got stripped during the set up, then it's their fault.
The scooters vibrations can make them come loose, but it shouldn't strip the threads out.
-
The threads could have been stripped at the factory ooops.
-
There is a kid that makes my light bulbs wear out. I don't know how but maybe it's him. ;D

update: took it for a ride and noticed that screw fell out too. that's 2 on the exhaust shield. 3 screws total have fallen out in 450 miles. :\
taking it to the dealer tomorrow.
-
Check the 3 on that end cap too. Mine on my replacement exhaust were loose too. The problem with losing those heat shield screws is that if you look at the parts diagrams there are multiple washers and spacers on either side of the shield. Wonder how many of those you've lost too. AND I don't see anywhere toy can order those individual pieces. Good luck at the dealer.
-
Ace hardware has them all. Use Stainless, and just walk out to the bike to try till you have the right size.
METRIC section.
-
Ace Hardware does have a good selection in my town but I've been wanting to get to the local Fastenal to see what they have too. I'm thinking they may have an even better selection. FYI my new exhaust has hex heads on the heat shield not the Phillips heads. If there is ever a choice between the two use the hex head.
-
I'd be lying if i said I wasn't a little frustrated.
I was just raving to my friend about how much I like my bike and his reply was " it looks fantastic! but what good is it if the screws keep falling out?" :'(
-
My Super 8 has almost 30,000 on the odometer... just lost one screw/bolt of the plastic pipe tip..
-
went to the dealer today, they put a bolt in and said they'd have to order more. I'll have them put it in when I bring it for the performance mods. they seem like a good bunch of guys.

Good to hear kimura!
It's nice to see that some of you guys have good, helpful dealers. It makes life easier when problems arise.
-
Remove the exhaust so they don't have anything to look at.
Ask the officer why he/she is looking at that part of the bike, maybe they are noticing something shaking or out of place, maybe just admiering the scoot. Que, Black Sabath "Paronoid".
-
Get a bigger and badder muffler.give theam something to look at.
-
Put a FTP sticker on the brake lens. They won't notice the muffler.
-
they won't be looking at the pipe anymore...
