Title: distance riding
Post by: mrjlube on April 21, 2014, 03:50:04 AM
Hello all. Just was wondering.....
is it bad for our scooter to cruise at 6000 rpm for a long time. I always feel like it will not last as long riding at rpms like that?

I think it's max torque is right around 5500 and at 65mph (GPS) I'm always at 6k on the tach. I cruise at those speeds for hours at a time sometimes and never had a problem. I think the engines were designed for that, probably even 6500 is fine. 7k or higher  for long periods I'd worry about.

I have a 2009 XC 500ri. I can run mine at 70 all day long.  It will top out at 81 mph.  I can push 75+ for a while.

It is comfortable at 65-72 mph all day long.

just to compare, I ride a 300i downtown  2011,.   I can ride all day at 75 mph.  passing up to 85 mph. tops out at 90 mph. that is on the speedometer,. on long trips I gas up at 200 miles, if I know there is gas bars handy,. longest ride was 500 miles one way,.  the 200 miles was a good time to rest and strech,. for ten minuits    and test the modded seat for comfort, raised the seat 4 inches and cut the seat back about 5 inches, now I can strech the legs out a little, but it puts my head up above the givi sheild,  with the sun shine there has to be some rain,.    Don

I tour at 6500 rpm all day long, (about 65 mpg or so). I average about 200 miles each time I ride. I have ridden many 700 mile days, and one 1,004 mile day/24 hours. Rode from AZ to MI twice. I ride it like I road my Harley's and BMW's. They are made for this. :-*
