Title: About to enter the Kymco 125 world need some advice!!!
Post by: NewbieKymco125 on April 03, 2014, 02:35:04 PM
Hi All,

In looking for a scooter I have decided that I would like to purhase the Kymco 125 which is just perfect for all my needs. Finally identified a used one wthin my budget a 2008 model  with 7,200 miles but there are two things that's got me worried:
1) The electric ignition no longer works so I will have to kick start it (as a newbie to bikes not sure how to really do this).
2) The scooter hasn't been services in over 2 years may indicate that it was treated really good (my undertstanding is that this should take place every 6 months).

Am I over analysing? Should i just take the leap?

Have you observed the scooter running?  Is the title clear?  Any explanation WHY the scooter was not serviced for over 2 years . . such as very limited use?

Hi,

I have seen here start the scooter and I am met to go for a ride on the back tommorrow. As far as I am aware she uses it 5 days a week for work. So I am not sure why this has not been serviced. think it's poor care on her part.

It is too late to save such a beauty?

Numerous unknown variables . . but definitely suspect if operated routinely for over 2 years without an oil change!  Might be prudent to perform a cylinder compression test (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHJrA9NNcDM) (10mm sparkplug adapter required), even only using the kick start.

Before you even buy this bike , it should be inspected by your mechanic. Change not just the engine oil, but all the rest of oil as well. It might even need a new engine with oil being black.  Just be careful on this. It is your money.

How mechanical are you? That bike will need an oil change (engne and rear drive) and a valve adjustment. Neither are difficult unless you're not used to working on engines.

Why does the electrical start no long work? Dead battery? That's an easy fix. If it's soemthing else it could be a bit of a PITA.

If you're not mechanically inclined you may want to pas on this one unless it's a smokin' deal.

I hope you don't mind if I hitch a ride on your thread NewbieKymco.  I am also hunting and will buy an Agility 125 soon.  I thought with the cashback incentive going on it might be a good time to talk price on a 2013 model.

Several dealers have the 2014 in stock for a little more than their 2013's.  But none of the ones available in my area have the flip-up seat.   I am a little confused about what I've read online. Does anyone know what changes have been made to the Agility 125 between the 2013 and 2014 model years?

I would the only difference are the color schemes. It is only tne Agility 50 bike that has the pop up seat. I wish this feature would come with all bikes. Having back support is a must on any bike.

Thanks for the quick reply. That makes sense.  A number of dealers must be using the Agility 50cc picture on their ads for the 125cc.

I agree, it would be nice to have that seat.  There are aftermarket boxes with a seat built into them, for a premium.  But for cheap I could probably rig up a plastic box, cover a cushion, and attach it.

New to scooter maintenance...You need to change the oil in two places?

haha whatever it takes to get me out on the road more. I had a Suzuki DRZ 400 dual sport but that was not much fun to ride double.
