Has anyone changed the grips?
I'm trying to find out the size, specifications for replacement grips and how to replace them. I want to get soft ones that absolve the vibration, but don't know shoe or were to get them then how to do the job. My dealer does not have them but they get $88.00 per hour labor.
They also don't have Michelin city grip tires I found rear on the web but can'r find the front anywhere.
Anyone that can help I would appreciate it.

were do you get this covers? they fit over or they are replacement grips?
I can't find nothing for my DT locally. On line they don't specify and I can't fond specifications for the grips, so to order the correct type and size.

Grips on the Downtown are standard motorcycle diameter. Don't get the one for cruiser motorcycles (too fat) nor the ones for ATVs (don't want both sides to be same size).
To replace grips, you basically wedge a screwdriver between the handlebar and the rubber and try to break the seal. You can use soapy water or light oil to help you. Sometimes compressed air will take the grip off easily. The throttle side is a little trickier, as you have to get the rubber off the nylon throttle sleeve.
If you don't care about saving the old grips, then do it the easy way and take a box cutter to slit the grip lengthwise. Peel off.
Slip the new grips on. I don't use glue when reinstalling the grips, as the sticky rubber won't move. Glue also makes future removal much more difficult.
As for tires, try the Michelin Pilot Pure SC if you cannot find City Grips.

I'm trying to get comparison on the best tire for my bike I was reading about Metzler. Getting more info on them. I figure I have time to shop and I like getting the best traction all weather tire. In south florida rain is popular and sometimes unpredictable, even with the sun out. They call it liquid sunshine, but if light rain it can get very slippery on asphalt.

You cannot really do anything in light rain except to ride slow because no matter how good your tire is, there is less traction because of the wet dirt, sand and dust between the road and your tires...

If I understand your question correctly, then standard motorcycle grips have a thicker left handlebar grip and a thinner right handlebar grip to accomodate the nylon throttle sleeve that goes over the bar. On an ATV, both grips may have the same diameter because the throttle is operated by the thumb and not by rolling the handlebar on. Consequently, heated grips designed for ATVs may not fit on the Downtown.

I read somewhere that the DT needs different sized grips. Yes probably due to the throttle tube.
On big bikes they are the same but I guess scooters are different?

Scooters and maxi scooters tend to use the standard motorcycle grips. Cruiser motorcycles like the Kymco Venox tend to have fatter handlebars, so they require even bigger grips than those found on other motorcycles.
I've installed heated grips on a Downtown 300i and documented the procedure somewhere on this board before. :D

Did you get the universal sized ones?
I think i better give them a good measure just to be safe.
Hope to get the Spider 'PEAK' grips as per on my other bike.

I specifically got the Koso heated grips for motorcycles 7/8" + 1". Koso also makes a 1" + 1 1/8" set for cruiser motorcycles. ATV should be 7/8" + 7/8".

I just got my new grips and they are great. They suggest using hair spray to get them on, I did and they whent on perfectly. They are not too thick but a lot more cushion. The only thing I notices is that if it rains they will absolve water unlike the hard ones. But I will try them and see. For the money you can't beat it I paid $11.67 with shipping. So its cheap looks great and very comfortable, I can always just slip them off it I want.
