Title: Yager gas tank
Post by: Fogie on January 17, 2014, 09:04:48 PM
I've assumed that the Yager gas tank is plastic (or some non-metallic variation thereof); can somebody please confirm this?

Thanx   ...   Fogie

Thanx Randy.  The reason I'm concerned, is that I normally ride year-round, but with the weather being as it has, I haven't been able to get out regularly, and I didn't top-up the tank at the start of the winter. In the old days, bikes with metal tanks used to rust if they weren't topped up when they were left standing. Guess I'll ask my dealer if there's anything I should do at this point.

For what it's worth, the tank in the picture you posted looks for all the world like black plastic to me, but I'll take your word on it.

No it's metal, see the weld under the round top bolted on cover piece.

If you leave airspace it will rust but if you fill it with ethanol laced gas
it will corrode. You can't win. It should be OK. I sometimes leave my
vehicles low on gas so they get a fresh batch in the spring. Maybe after
10 or 20 years that rust will get you....

I've had a few bikes with rust problems but most were at the bottom of
the tank. The water settles out and rusts the bottom. Ethanol might fix
that!
