Title: Is this necessary for a scooter engine?

I see these for sale all the time - but I'm wondering if there is much point in putting one of these on my Kymco ?

My question is: Does the engine oil in a scooter come into contact with much in the way of ferromagnetic metals?

All the core components of a combustion engine are made of steel.
Aluminium would be to weak.

But if you have swarfs in the oil, the engine is already damaged.
And the dangerous dirt from outside (sand ...) isn't ferromagnetic.
Best for cleaning oil is a paper filter.

It may help in a big engine, but a small scooter engine... not quite necessary... frequent oil change would be best...

My Yager GT 125 has a paper filter (#MA0006) and my Xciting 500 too (#MA3050).
Cleaning is better than wasting. ;)

Magnetic collectors are useful for telling when your engine is about to self-destruct.  Before something breaks, it usually starts shedding shards of metal.  Nice to know with expensive engines like airplane engines or Ferraris.  But you can buy a complete new Kymco 50cc engine with transmission for less than $400, so you might as well just ride the heck out it until it blows up.  That's what I do.
