Title: New Tires on my Downtown
Post by: RubenC on November 01, 2013, 04:11:36 AM
Today,I picked up my Downtown from Moxie Scooters in Colleyville, TX.  I had the spark plug and brake pads replaced.  A new belt and rollers were installed. Plus a new set Metzeler tires were also installed. The Metzelers are replacing my Pirelli Diablos.

I have gone thru 3 rear Diablo tires.  The 1st time, I used Diablo tires was when I had my rear tire blowout in June 2012.  But I was ready to try something different. The Metzeler's ride the same but different.  The Traction seems to be a little bit better grip than The Diablo.  At the next rain fall, we will see how well the traction is.

It rained Monday (11/04) and Tuesday (11/05), On Monday, most of my ride was in what we call the Mid-cities area of Fort Worth Dallas Metroplex.  On Tuesday, I had a 50 mile round trip in the rain to Richardson, TX via George Bush Tollway.  The Metzeler tires performed very well. I did not feel like they were slipping or hydroplaning.

Replaced the Bridgestones with Metzlers.  Purely subjective, I think they are better in the wet, no clue as to how long they will last.  I use the scoot for errands and sometimes long day rides where I push it hard on rough roads.  IMO, the road surface/curves makes a big difference on wear rate.

After the ice storm came thru the Fort Worth Dallas area, I was finally able to ride my Towner on Thursday.  Every so often, I would come across some small ice patches or very wet/light ice patches that I could not avoid.  The scooter with the Metzler tires handle them very well.
