Is it necessary to run a ball hone thru cyclinder when replacing?
-
Yes... if not, you cannot break-in your engine properly with the glaze on the cylinder walls... Honing will grind the glaze away and your new cylinder and rings will easily set with the honed walls during break-in.

If you buy a good cylinder you should not use a ball hone at all, some cylinders in fact come Nicasil lined and if you run a hone through it you will destroy the lining and have horrid compression. Always check to make sure its not lined prior to ever honing.
