Title: 1,600 mile camping trip on GTI 300
Post by: Trucker jay on October 03, 2013, 12:36:50 AM
Chattanooga Tn to Washington D.C and back, a lot of interstate on the way up.  Skyline Drive and most of the Blue Ridge Parkway on the way back.  I did the tail of the dragon last Saturday (man that some crazy stuff) never again on the weekend.  Scooter did good but had a slipping cvt belt in the rain.

This slipping belt thing is something that bothers me.
We need to figure out a fix for this.
Glad you had a good, safe trip.

I rode in a down pour all day, I'm kinda wondering how much rain does it take to make it slip.

I have had belts slip in heavy rain and it is a safety issue. I will be going to my third belt soon. It was terrible in a few heavy down pours but manageable in light rain. Water gets inside the plastic outer case and there isn't anything over the hole in the metal so once the plastic gets breached its game over. Thinking of trying to rig a foam cover over opening in variator when I change belt this time.

I too have had belt slippage, mine in a very light rain. At the time I wasn't sure if belt was slipping or tire was spinning. My rear tire is  OEM. I can't understand how water can even get on the belt since it is spinning and should throw water off. Are you guys sure it was your belt slipping and not the tire spinning?

100 percent sure of belt slippage. Its dangerous when on a slight grade you can only muster 35mph in a 60mph zone! at rush hour.
